Official announcement from RTA:

http://conta.cc/p4UMIS
At about 5:30 PM we hope to have Mayor Sly James and County Executive Mike Sanders speak briefly about the mutually supportive relationship between this proposal and the Jackson County Rapid Rail proposal for transit service between Blue Springs and Union Station, and between Pleasant Hill and Union Station (that includes a proposed trail connection from Kansas City to the KATY Trail). We are also hoping to follow these words with a very special entertainment surprise.]At about 5:30 PM we hope to have Mayor Sly James and County Executive Mike Sanders speak briefly about the mutually supportive relationship between this proposal and the Jackson County Rapid Rail proposal for transit service between Blue Springs and Union Station, and between Pleasant Hill and Union Station (that includes a proposed trail connection from Kansas City to the KATY Trail). the very special surprise is reportedly a performance by quixotic, but it's not a done deal yet.

this will actually be an all-day event, with food coupons for union station restaurants if you tour the vehicle.

Dave, you're doing a great job.
I can't help, though, equating your visit to the streetcar at US to that of the fanatical train guys who visit there whenever an old train shows up. I suspect then that you'll be there with knee-high tube socks and a camera around your neck. And you better start now getting a beer belly.
My apologies to all you weird train guys.

I've always been amazed at how little downtown workers will walk to get lunch. If it's not across the street or in the P&L, it's out of the question. a 25 center would definitely increase the traffic in crossroads/river market

I probably agree.  But, walking to lunch is not fun when it's +107 outside.
