there was also a sign up that they were hiring, so i'd say yes.KCPowercat wrote: Winder if there is any way whopper bar makes big 12 tournament?

Whopper Bar will be open "early March" as part of BK franchisee Genish, Inc. (which already operates BKs mostly on the KS side and throughout KS). The location is already listed on Genish web site w/ a phone number. No word on hours...

They better hurry on up if they want to grab the Big XII tourney traffic that will pouring through there next week!trailerkid wrote: Whopper Bar will be open "early March" as part of BK franchisee Genish, Inc. Definitely flying on opening this up. Signage was up last night with people in their working like 9pm. Looked like they had no table/chairs.
Wonder if they will get a temporary liquor license in time?

I'm not sure having Bud Light there initially is going to matter for the average Big XII fan experience at P+L. Not to sound like a snob, but when someone from Mason City, IA or Junction City, KS sees BK and Whopper Bar within eye shot of the Live! block they'll storm the place.KCPowercat wrote: Definitely flying on opening this up. Just wondering. Didn't think it would make a difference.

i don't think they're ready to open today. while the exterior has sprouted more cladding than a mid-90s pontiac, there are still chefburger stickers all over the windows.

I always made fun of people in those over-aggressively plastic cars.

What a huge F Up if they can't get this place open by Wednesday. I don't think out of towners realize how much business they can get this week.

Re: P&L District: 13th & Main Site Proposal
Got to check out Drunken Fish this week. Really slick interior, very modern looking, but not pretentiously so. Service was really terrific, I mean our server was one of the most attentive and friendliest I've ever had, without being intrusive. She also was helpful on stuff we were unfamiliar with.
They seem to have pretty decent happy hour specials - lots of good sushi, they make some apps available and even some non-domestic beer and cocktails. We ordered a couple of apps - don't make that mistake. The mussels were absolutely gross. They were very chewy to the point I finally had to spit it out. And they were drenched in this gross orange glop that tasted like Miracle Whip. I have no idea what they were thinking with that dish but apparently its one of their more popular dishes. We also got the calamari which was at least edible, but they cut them in long strips rather than bite sized pieces, so that when you bite into one, the entire squid falls out of the breading so you're left with just cooked squid and empty breading. So big fail on the apps.
But the sushi was quite good. We got the white tiger roll which I highly recommend. It could do without the mayo, but all the other stuff was great, nice avacado, calamari, crab and tuna. We also got the red dragon roll with crab and spicy tuna with asparagus - very good. The sashimi was okay - in other places around town its usually pretty tender, here it was a bit stringier I thought, but it was still tasty.
I don't think the sushi competition is all that great, so this place should do well and I'd certainly try it again although I would stick just to the sushi. I'm stuck to Kirin and Sapporo, but I'm kinda curious to try some of the cocktails next time.
