From what I understand, OnGoal's long term plan is to add other sports in addition to soccer.pash wrote:The only thing slightly odd about using the name for KC's MLS franchise is that most of the other "Sportings" are all-sports clubs rather than soccer-only enterprises.
So the Sporting moniker may yet be an accurate descriptor.

Re: New Sporting Kansas City Stadium at Village West
The team logo doesn't have gradients. Only the "web version" of the logo is given that look. So, here is the standard logo without the gradients...pash wrote: Now, the logo, on the other hand, I think is pretty bad. It's like the 2010s version of those 1990s MLB and NFL expansion-team logos with garish teal and purple color-schemes. If your team logo has gradients and shading and perspective effects in it, you're doing it wrong.

It would be pretty cool if they donated a portion of every ticket sold at the stadium to the foundation. That would be a neat idea.KCMax wrote: I kinda like it. Will Lance show up for the opening?
And actually, it looks like that could happen:

Good way to get press, and a great concept for large scale entertainment venues.

Looks like the team is already getting a ton of great pub from this.According to team's official Twitter feed, part of the proceeds from games and events at the stadium will be donated to local cancer research.

Too bad about the delays. They are losing some viewers on the webcast due to "weather." The delay now is up to 40+ minutes.KCMax wrote: Looks like the team is already getting a ton of great pub from this.
Depending on how exactly it is crafted, though, the concept could get international recognition eventually. I've not heard of such a commitment to a charity before from a sports organization.
Starting now, actually...

I don't think they could have done any better than this. Who cares about the name of the park, if every team could go out and do something like this, everyone would be a lot better off. Hopefully this starts a trend.
Also, Bobby your link needs to be fixed. You forgot the "g" in Livestrong.

Re: New Sporting Kansas City Stadium at Village West
Just think about it. They are donating money to charity to have a name on their stadium. They have also said that the entire property is smoke and tobacco free. How many owners around the world would actually consider a deal like this? I am sure on some level the team did this to get more positive publicity and media attention but even if that is true, IMO it doesn't matter because they are still doing it.
Also, in January the team held a snowball fight. Professional athletes out there competing with fans. How many other teams would sponsor such an event? Talk about endearing yourselves to your community.
This is how a team gets loyal fans. Obviously playing well and winning on the field is a part of it but if they can keep doing things like this they will gain several more loyal fans even during the tough times on the field.

SKC has invited Chad Ochocinco to try out. This could be entertaining!

But where would you put Liberty Memorial?
