Southwest to cut flights from KCI
The flight reductions will mean six fewer departures from Kansas City International Airport, one to each of the following cities: Albuquerque, N.M.; Baltimore; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Nashville, Tenn.; and Oakland, Calif. All those cities will continue to have service from Kansas City.

Southwest currently has 68 departures from KCI. Although the discount carrier is eliminating those six flights in January, Southwest is adding three flights to its Kansas City schedule in November. The airline is adding two more flights to Denver and is adding one flight to a new city, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Spring schedules for Southwest were released today. As of March 8th, KC will see one additional daily flight to Albuquerque (2), Baltimore (3) and Las Vegas (5). As a result, Southwest is reducing its number of flights to Oklahoma City from KC from three daily non-stops to two and it will cut service to Tulsa from KC altogether (a loss of two flights). We will also lose one daily flight to Chicago-Midway (10).

KCI the cheapest option among Midwestern airports.

In March , Delta is adding two nonstops from KC to New York-La Guardia  and one nonstop to JFK (to connect tow the international flights)

Finally , some good news!

That is good news.  I always felt KC had poor service to NYC.  I hope the Midwest flights stay in place though.

^American and Midwest regularly have nonstops to LGA.  Never had an issue getting a nonstop to NYC from KC.

Nice - I would much rather go to NY to board a transatlantic flight than go to Chicago or DFW for a longer haul on AA.  Hope the international connections are competitive price wise with the usual options.

American dropped their service to LGA several years ago. I believe it was mid to late 2006 or thereabouts.

Southwest announced it will be adding an additional non-stop each to Nashville (4) and Oakland (2) in May.

Am hoping the airline industry (especially Midwest Air) will recover with the lower fuel prices.  Now they just & need the passenger increase.  I'm contributing lately, flying more often in the last few months compared to norms.  Looks like KCI is still one of the cheapest airports to fly out of.

Midwest is a ghost of its former self.  It will be a marginal player from now until it folds or is absorbed by a larger airline.

I recently saw on the KCI website they released the Master Plan this month. Here's the link:
http://www.airportsites.net/masterplans ... 8-5x11.pdf

It calls for a new 59 gate terminal south of Runway 9/27 in Phase 2 between 2016 and 2020. Does anybody know what they plan on doing with the current 3 terminals? With a more modern terminal making it easier to have a connecting flight- wouldn't this increase the chances of a hub?

We don't need a hub, just a decent terminal that doesn't embrarass the city.

maybe we can add "we're a big city" signs everywhere to help residents out with their inferiority complex???  Would be cheaper.
