I think the delay will draw few complaints from suburbanites.

I like it when people take into account construction on alternate routes. I remember at one time I felt like Kansas City was a giant construction zone.

Springfield is going to beat us for the first American Diverging Diamond.  MoDOT will build one at the intersection of Route 13 and I-44 on the north side of the city.  Scheduled to start in January 2009 and be finished by the fall.

They need to do something with that interchange - hopefully people don't kill themselves figuring out the new diamond configuration.

Since the improvements to MO-7 and 13, its a pretty easy drive to Springfield/Branson, until you hit the massive jam-up trying to get onto I-44.  Pleasantly surprised at the speedy construction timetable.  I was expecting something along the lines of the time it took to do the 87th and I-35 SPUI in Lenexa.

They aren't replacing the bridge as they did in Lenexa.  This is reconfiguring the existing infrastructure, which won't take very long.

I think St. Louis already has one of these.  Highway 270 and Olive.

i-270 and olive is a spui -- single-point urban interchange.

What a cluster fuck that is going to be. Build two flyover ramps and pull out the lights.

Yeah, it sounds like someone hates their job designing road networks and came up with this to keep from killing themselves with boredom.

A right lane flyover ramp to make left a turn onto the highway and a right lane flyover ramp to bring cars off the highway in each direction would solve the problem and eliminate the need for any stop lights in the intersection. Drivers are stupid and this will be the biggest mess ever in the history of Springfield.

Diverging Diamond interchange is now open in Springfield:

Front Street is still supposed to start once the new Paseo Bridge is finished.  KC Southern is also proposing a diverging diamond for the CenterPoint intermodal freight hub.

We went thru the DDI in Springfield a couple of weeks ago and didn't find it confusing...just a little odd to be driving on the left side of the road.

Actually, this was supposed to be the first DDI in the country, but the KCIcon project pushed it back a few years.

We drove thru there after Thanksgiving and concur with your statement.

Since the KCIcon project finished early, this will go out to bid in February and construction will begin in April.

I'm curious why we aren't getting one of these on the new George Brett Bridge or even a  SPUI. Noland Road bridge was supposed to be a SPUI but they went with a traditional design. It's still a fucking nightmare to get through. I guess the good thing is it's not hard to convert a traditional bridge to a diverging diamond. Considering the post game traffic patterns GBB would have been perfect for a diverging diamond.

BTW, this job has been designed, out to bid, and awarded to Clarkson Construction.

Hey Northlanders...would a Diverging Diamond work at MO152 and I35?
