There's an awful lot of activity on this block today but the webcam picture is too small/grainy to make out what's going on. It looks like something more than just pushing dirt around but I can't tell from here.

YES. and the word is that the FUBU store on that block will have to fly the Confederate flag.

I am no costruction expert - but I would think that now that the structure of the HR Block is pretty well finished and they are turning to the skin and interior build-out, maybe they have crews that will be ready to turn to something else and start pouring the other structures. Â

I would imagine that a slab is indeed the answer. No need for a basement in these types of operations.

Not an expert on building requirements but don't you at least have to put the foundation below the frost line? Typically, I believe that is six feet and most just go ahead and make it 10 or 12 to make a basement. Not sure if this is the case in commerical building.

Footings and foundations only require trenches or drilled holes.

I'm not sure, but from my very limited view (which is just a tiny sliver of the block), it looks like some sort of construction may have begun.  I can see what appears to be the start of a concrete foundation and some rebar cages in thr ground.

I didn't see any rebar around the site yesterday, but who knows they may be working pretty quickly.

Well I was DT yesterday and nothing was going on so I didn't take pictures of this site.

I was up on the roof of the Town Pavilion garage looking around today, I didn't notice any activity on this site . . . looks to me like it is a staging area at this point. I noticed several trailers with precast sections (likely the 13th and Walnut garage) parked there.

Yeah, your right. It looks to be about 8-9 pre-fab parking garage pieces.

Hmmm... damn. Like I said, my view is only a small sliver, but from here it looked like the rebar was anchored to the ground.

You can't really see it well in the webcam, but there are now basement walls going "up" in the northwest corner of this block.

From the proposal it appears that the first level of this whole block will be street level. The basement walls might be just large footings. I do not think from any of the renderings that there will be any real tall buildings on this block. The only block left in the webcam view that will have a major dig will be the 1400 block of main. As this block will have an underground parking garage.

Actually this is one of the blocks scheduled for a future condo tower, though that is on the southern half of the block. The part where the basement is being built looks like it's earmarked for a somewhat large restaurant.

they have been forming foundation walls along the southside of 14th street on this block today. also, there is a large precast panel that was being placed somewhere on site.
activity is speeding up...
