DaveKCMO wrote:"late april, early may", per o'neill events yesterday (who is planning the opening day celebration). they are also seeking private sector donations to offset the cost, so that will drive how elaborate the event will be. after the politicos do their boring spiel, expect neighborhood-focused events to distribute people along the line. we can't all ride at once, of course!
I'll cleat my calendar.

Seems it would be pretty easy to get businesses along the line (especially at stops) to donate some sponsorship funds.

They should shut down main the length of the route and then let two streetcars race the entire length starting from the edge of river market where the dual track starts down to US. Lets see what these things can do!

Progressive bar hop. Places have to bid to be that stop's bar for that day.

Confetti cannons first time the car hits each stop.

DJ at each platform of different musical tastes.

Close main street through CBD

That's not half bad.

And decorate them for each state in the area

One with Kansas decorations, the other Missouri (not the teams)

Why not raffle off tickets for those who want to be part of the first ride? Or sell tickets using a bidding process.
Raffle tickets should go towards some downtown-based charity if anything. It would be distasteful to fund a party that way

They and their family get to dedicate the train (the proverbial busted champaign) and be the first on.

i believe 20th to pershing will be closed on friday and saturday. on-street parking on the route will not be available.

cross-streets and other parking will not be affected (although some businesses are planning to close their lots for events). take free bus service provided by KCATA!

What was the reasoning behind the closure 20th to Pershing and no street parking?

A request from Raggers...I think with a little bit of work, we could get the KC Streetcar Wikipedia article featured in the "Did you know..." section of the main page on opening day.

The content itself is already mostly there, and probably just needs some expansion. A picture or three of it in operation would be nice, too. :-)

i don't know how KCATA will handle that closure, but i'm pretty sure all routes will be running.

Not sure we made much of a dent in the keg, though Mean and Bahua tried admirably....
