I resemble that comment!
All taxi services are not equal, though there is an overlap regarding roadkill.

I now have a visual of taxi servicing roadkill. And I don't even know what he looks like.

"All taxi services are not equal"

Who said all taxi services are equal? Me, I just said taxi services should be treated equally.

May not be much of an issue in KC. The city doesn't have much of a regulatory authority in this area much like it does with taxis.

If the hotels or CVB were out there barking to the council...

Of course, if the individual owners of the properties are paying their taxes (which would be done by them not airbnb) why would the city care? Airbnb would be no different than Expedia or any other independent room booking system.

not the argument NYC made (and they cracked down, legislatively at first). airbnb rentals are not subject to hotel taxes or inspections. by your logic, city should not fight uber/lyft because drivers are legally paying gas tax, vehicle property tax, and have private vehicle inspections.

Difference between taxis and hotel rooms. Hotel rooms are not regulated in KC whereas taxis are.
KCMO does not have an ordinance to limit short term apartment rentals like NYC does.

From the article:
" In his decision, the judge said the subpoena was not limited to hosts in New York City, nor to rentals of fewer than 30 days.

The subpoena “as drafted,” the judge wrote, “seeks materials that are irrelevant to the inquiry at hand and accordingly, must be quashed.”

The judge also said in the decision that there was evidence that a “substantial” number of Airbnb hosts were violating New York’s illegal hotel and tax laws, and he ruled against the start-up on several of its other objections to the subpoena."

It looks like the government is after the records to find out law compliance of the hosts and the best source is airbnb. The action appears not against airbnb itself.

Anyway, who says the KC locals are not paying the taxes, like the hotel/motel tax, like the hotels.

Well, go ahead and move this topic of airbnb to that thread or create a new one. I am not able to move it. The statement implying KCMO has licensing and codes against airbnb/etc. Just wanted you to point them out to me so I can read them and educate myself. Anyway, I wasn't the one who brought up airbnb in this topic.

Been taking Uber quite a few times and so far find their drivers all young, friendly, and very inexperienced with the city. Cars are clean. Almost every driver also drives for Lyft.

Uber is planning their black car service and SUV service and my driver last night thinks it will gather a lot of driver support from the black car drivers not in the Bill George goon (his words). Also have heard almost everybody using uber so far is from out of town.

It's funny to hear them talk about why they are different than Cabs... Can definitely tell they have been given their talking points.

Are there any other cities they operate entirely legally?

A later tweet said only because they aren't charging for the rides (they are charging for the rides though?)

Probably ask for a "donation". Thats what Lyft is doing.
