Oh, I really hope you are right about the green space.  And I hope it is a LONG temp.  I think the area could use a little more green.

That would be a great little pocket park for sure.  I think tho, the land is still controlled by the EPA, and will not be sold until the area has been completely decontaminated, which is sometime this summer. The plans I've heard were put forth by the folks that own the  Safeway building and the Stuart Hall building. Since their tenants would be the main beneficaries, they do have a great interest in obtaining the property.

I wonder if I should be worried about buying a loft at the Freighthouse Flats since it is right next door to the old PCB site.  Maybe by the time the are finished the area will be safe.  [-o<

if Chicago can build Millineum Park on a massive former waste dump, surely KCMO can handle PCB Bldg cleanup.  :)

They must not be too concerned about the dirt.  Last time I was there the area was open so the dirt/dust could just blow around the area.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see if anything will grow.

So, is this site large enough for baseball stadium?

Not even close, and it would be a horrible spot for one.  That little area has some great old brick canyons and is a tight, dense residential area bookended by the boulevard and the Frieghthouse.  No room to tack anything onto that.

I do hope this spot gets redeveloped.  However, while I'm normally disgusted when I hear about more "pocket parks", the Crossroads is one place that could use it.  I'd prefer planting over a parking lot to reusing this lot in that way, though.

Why's that?

Because we have plenty of "green space," most of it poorly executed in ways that make it underused and so that it kills density.  It has become and excuse to tear things down or to build in low-density, in the name of "green space".  I think there should be a distinction between park areas and dense streets, not a bunch of half-block parks everywhere because we killed density.

I can see your point.  However, I agree that this area could use some well designed parks/green spaces.  It would just add to an already great area.

I didn't know that the Crossroads already had plenty of green space.

That location needs to retain its densigy.  The site is way too close to the vast openness of the rail yard, it would seem silly to have more open space that close.  I do believe we need more green areas in the crossroads, but this is not the site for that.

I am moving into a unit in stuart hall that overlooks this lot at the end of the month so I have to say I like the idea of a park.  However, I have a feeling that this lot may sit idol for a long while after they finish the demo.enviro work while they figure out what to do with it.

Scoop is a mixed-use project with retail, office, and condominiums.
That or a monstrosity of a "Tom Levitt" parking garage.

Sources.  Apparently several groups competing for site.
Surprisingly enough...no one is proposing a park.

No way it would be a garage.  The demand isn't there.  Each of the residential elements there has its own parking currently, doesn't it?  Don't tell me this is another way to charge higher rents by implementing "covered parking" instead of a lot.

People care way too much about their cars.

I also enjoy my car but I think we need more well placed/designed green spaces then parking garages in the area.
