Re: Glass Recycling
Funny...was in Knoxville TN this weekend and they don't have any recycling whatsoever. No bins...I assumed most cities had them by now.

Re: Glass Recycling
This seems to be a wildly successful program.

Krum said a dozen cities in five states, including Lincoln, Eureka Springs, Ark., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jefferson City, Topeka and Springfield, have begun shipping their recyclable glass to Kansas City.

Re: Glass Recycling
Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that most recycled glass pre-ripple actually ended up in a landfill. If I set out glass with my other recyclables for KCMO curbside pickup will it get recycled by ripple or landfilled?

Re: Glass Recycling
if you set out glass for curbside pickup, it will be left on the curb because KC doesn't recycle glass. this is why ripple exists. you have to take the glass and drop it off in one of the many ripple glass dumpsters.shaffe wrote: Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that most recycled glass pre-ripple actually ended up in a landfill. Re: Glass Recycling
I had one guy tell me he was surprised at how many bottles I was recycling (I think the noise caught his attention), when I told him that was only two weeks worth of bottles he gave me a funny look!

I cart mine down to the CP bin in a wheel barrow every other week or so. Makes a ton of noise...always get lots of interesting looks from the JOCO folks in their SUVs who are leaving Garozzos. guilty pleasure

Re: Glass Recycling
I really, really wish someone did curbside glass recycling. I'm pro ripple glass, but the only places that I really go that have a bin are the liquor store on 103rd (is that one new? Because I haven't seen it before and/or been able to find it) and the one near Rockhurst and I'm not letting a couple of tubs of beer bottles sit in my trunk for 6+ hours in the heat while I go to class.
Yeah, I'm just that lazy.

Too lazy to leave five minutes early and recycle the glass before class?

* 51st and Main
* Plaza (by Capital Grille)
* Westport Sun Fresh
* Rockhurst (5400 Troost)
* Midtown Home Depot
* Brookside (Berbiglia at 63rd and Main)
* Hallmark (27th and Mcgee Trfcwy)
sure, curbside glass recycling would be ideal, but it's really not that hard to find five minutes to take your recycling to one of these bins. and i can tell you from experience that leaving bottles in your car for a few hours (or even days) isn't a big deal at all.

Re: Glass Recycling
Columbus Park also got one for our neighborhood. Not totally sure how they hooked it up. I think if you contact them directly to ask for one they may supply it. Ours is a regular sized purple ripple dumpster, not one of those huge ones. If you think your neighborhood really wants and will use one, get in touch with them and ask.
