...if'n ya didn't ride today - dang sorry!!
i rode yesterday. here's my brief report.
Went on a little ride yesterday with a couple of friends.
I rode my 1100 goldwing. Buddy from work rode his kawasaki meanstreak. His cousin had a brand new streetfighter style honda cbr599 with only 100 miles on the OD. I guess he got it broke in today.
We met at the QT in smithville, missouri with the intention of going to rulo, nebraska. I got the directions from a friend who has rode up there and he said to take 169 all the way til it ends and there will be a restaurant at the end at the missouri river.
We left smithville about 9:30 am and took 169 all the way up and ended up at mount ayr, iowa about 12:30 pm.
Our first stop for gas was about 10 miles short of the iowa border. My buddy with the kaw was getting low. He said it has a 4.3 gallon tank. I was at a quarter tank and filled up but him and his cousin didn't want to use ethanol so they both only got a gallon or so. We get to mt. ayr and guess what? The only station in a small town in iowa only has ethanol gas. I told them before, but they didn't believe me. We had lunch at this great little diner on the square called "peggy sue's". It has the drivers half of a red 57 chevy stuck up on the wall above the entrance. They had the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. Thin cut and they came with a little bowl of powdered sugar for some reason.
After we left we took hiway 2 east to 35 south. Drove about 80-85mph until we got to the nicest rest area I have ever seen in missouri. Took care of business and picked up some free maps and directions to 69 hiway. Rode on 69 all the way to liberty. Took awhile but a very decent 2 lane 65mp road. Curves, hills and no lights.
All in all a very nice ride. Beautiful day. Low traffic count. Lots of open road. Lots of open space. Saw these huge windmills right off of 169 up north by iowa.
Made 3 stops for gas, one stop to eat and one stop at the rest area. All of the bikes ran well with no problems. I continue to be amazed at how well my goldwing runs and how fast it will go and how long it will go fast. An amazing bike for being 26 years old. 5th gear seems to be the overdrive gear. I can run all day in 4th at high speed with no problems and great throttle response. I do gear up to 5th if I'm on flat terrain with no hills or curves, but that's just to bring down the revs. It loves high rpm's and never fails to give me lots of power when I want it.
With all the winding roads and meandering around I conservatively figure that we did at least 300 miles in about 8 hours.
