Firebirds Restaurant

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill introduced a taste of Colorado to the Carolinas when it first opened its doors in Charlotte, North Carolina in December of 2000. The restaurant is the creative concept of owner and restaurateur, Dennis Thompson, who regularly travels out west. He fell in love with the feel of the area as well as the food. Drawing from those experiences, he developed Firebirds.

What is the point of this mall when Great Plains and Metcalf South are mostly vacant?

i agree, but would amend to:

"What is the point of any mall, anywhere, when brick/mortar retail is in the toilet and probably in an irreversible decline?" Seriously, why waste the land, energy, tax incentives, etc. for a demonstrably dead economic idea? Particularly, as you say, when other shopping centers (some of which are in the same municipality) are vacant or in obvious decline?

Such is the never-ending zombie march of sprawl.

135th and Metcalf is surrounded by tony neighborhoods.

Metcalf South is in rundown north OP. Great Plains Mall is in Olathe.

We do not reuse in Joco. We abandon and move on, like a virus.

You jest but I am a little surprised what a tough time this place has had launching. Outside of 119th and Roe/Nall (Leawood Town Center area), there's not much retail in Joco south of 435 despite a hefty population that's middle class and above. I was out there at Christmas, there's one pricey department store there (name escapes me) and it was empty - we were about the only customers in the place.

Prairie Fire (which is well underway) will have some upscale tenants when it is finished. This whole area will be bustling in about 18 months or less. I am surprised that the department store (Von Maur) has been able to weather this delay. But it is the only high end department store - besides Nordstrom's - in the county (and no, Macy's does not count).
