Police Funding Requirement passes. Legal battle to come. The state will have to pony up or it should be found unconstitutional.

JoCo is no longer even remotely a GOP county. Not even Jerry Moran who won by 23 carried JoCo. It will probably never vote Republican ever again. Solidly a Dem county from here on out.

$175 million in bonds approved for parks, convention center and affordable housing.

https://www.kcur.org/politics-election ... ion-center

$80 million over five years to reopen shuttered public pools, to fix up its 10 community centers and repair historic fountains, and to do other playground and park improvements.

$45 million to address convention facility deferred maintenance, including replacing 15-year-old carpet, repairing outdated restrooms and modernizing technology.

$50 million over the next five years for affordable housing for low-income residents. An ordinance passed by the city council in October mandates that the money generated from the bond will prioritize “deeply affordable” housing — between about $550 and $750 per month.

His position is required to put the question on ballot every 20 years.

"$45 million to address convention facility deferred maintenance, including replacing 15-year-old carpet, repairing outdated restrooms and modernizing technology."

$45 mil for renovations? Jeez. Just build a new convention center at that rate.

New Convention Centers cost hundreds of millions - if not billions of dollars.

Only so much money to play with...

Probably not hugely materially. I thought they already increased it. It'll still be litigated for the next couple of years to try and get local control.

Short is raising money and q3 was reportedly record for his campaign. He has a donation link that is being shared around.

Personally, I'm feeling confident about his chances. Money doesn't always win the race. Getting out there and doing the work does.

I am in Clay County. Several commissioner candidates highlighted the same/similar issues.

-Repairing bridges
-Bringing back faith and family values (ok?)
-Sheriff Department Funding (they are already doing that)
-Pushing back against "special interests" south of the river (we are a net negative vs. south of river for funding)

Not a single one mentioned the absolute sad state of public transit and walkability in the county as far as I can tell. To be honest, that seems like the biggest issue in Clay county to me, that we cannot afford to support our outsized road infrastructure for our near 100% car dependent county (except certain parts of NKC & Libety, but still probably need a car to get around metro).

The county is already increasing funding for sheriffs department AND Clay/Platte are a net dependent of south of the river for funding- we'd be f'd if we were de-annexed. I'm glad that we got rid of the other two commissioners and can only hope that public transit becomes a more serious conversation if we get a regional funding measure on the ballot in the near future.

I realize we have to mostly blame our Republican controlled state legislature for overcontrol of us as a local entity, but why hasn't there been any effort in Congress to pass a bill striping the states of the ability to regulate local police forces? If we are the only one in the country that has this happen, it seems like it would be easy to pass. Democrats control the House, Senate and President right now. Why hasn't Cleaver submitted legislation? It seems it might be more important than anything else he's working on.
