Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
You're welcome. The mini City Market I found to be fun. It's a nice touch. I think people shitting on this goes back to concerns over whether this would be open on time and on budget and just a general questioning of whether a new terminal was necessary or not. While I'll miss the circles, this is a great replacement. It's warm and inviting with room to grow.

Yeah but the ceilings are too lowChris Stritzel wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 3:58 pmYou're welcome. The mini City Market I found to be fun. It's a nice touch. Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
I'm now no longer concerned about the width of the concourses. I understand the comment about the ceiling being a little low in the waiting area but it's not a big deal. Really above and beyond what I was hoping based on those pics.
my only remaining worry is how ground transportation is going to work and transition from shuttle buses to departures having to go up the elevator or escalator inside.

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
Not just a real airport, a real welcoming experience. There are a few things I would change, but they're minimal.
You're welcome! I'll get more Saturday of the art and some other things I overlooked. It'll give a better feel of things.
I can see how ceiling heights were a concern, but walking through and seeing how it all was in the walkways and in the seating areas, it didn't feel bad. It's not too high, but it's not low. You won't feel crammed. Where kiosks are located, there's still sufficient room to walk by and not feel crowded. They have a good blend with this and it works. It'll be interesting to see what this feels like once the terminal is in service.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 8:24 pm I'm now no longer concerned about the width of the concourses. As for ground transportation, I'm curious of that myself. If anyone knows how that'll work, chime in.

Secondary commercial roadway connects into garage across from arrivals roadway, there’s elevator bays there to take you up to departures in the garage, as well as in the terminal. Consolidated at one point with signage on the curb for each use (Uber, Econ parking, rental car)

I am. Sure, it seems roomy with a few dozen people walking through. Wait for Christmas travel or a big event weekend.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 8:24 pm I'm now no longer concerned about the width of the concourses.

They had two simulated flights staked at gates adjoining each other and I didn’t experience an issue.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 11:49 pmI am. Thanks for posting the pictures!
Great to join the ranks of American cities with functional airports. I do have a couple of questions:
1. In the check-in area, there doesn't seem to be many (if any) self-service check-in kiosks. Will these be moved in from the old terminals on the night before operations begin at the new terminal?
2. It looks like the store Made in KC has a place at the new terminal. On the channel 41 site, there is also a place called Made of Kansas City Food Hall. Is that a separate entity? Is it essentially a food court of KC restaurants? And is Dunkin Donuts before security? Looks like it is in the check-in area. Guess it's not the place to buy coffee if you want some in the gate area.
3. Is it obvious where to go to catch an Uber/Lyft or the bus to remote parking?

All in all, looks like a vast improvement over the present terminals. Some people will still complain and long for the circular terminals but I look forward to flying out of the new KCI.

Thanks for the great pics and reviews.
How did the commercial amenities seem like they were coming along? Any worries about them being ready in time?

1. There are some universal check-in kiosks installed with some airlines having their own in there already. I imagine others will be added soon.Highlander wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 1:06 am Thanks for posting the pictures!

2. Made of KC Food Hall, I assume, is a separate entity from Made in KC. It confuses me a bit. But yes, it’s basically a food court with local offerings. Dunkin Donuts is there for those who are waiting in line for security.
3. There signage downstairs for those things.
We didn’t get to see the Sky Lounge (bummer) but I imagine the club is getting close to completion.

Finishing touches were being applied on nearly everything. I doubt anything isn’t operating by opening day, even if it isn’t completely finished.

There is a Dunkin past security on the A concourse, and two pre security, one at arrivals and on at departures.Highlander wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 1:06 am Thanks for posting the pictures!

Uber/Lyft/rideshare are clearly marked and will have signage on the commercial road through the garage

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
That was the other question I had. I'm sure it's hard to tell but does it look like the ride-sharing area could get backed up and unweildy?
Enough space for cars to temporarily wait while people cross, load, etc. I assume they'll dispatch cars in waves like most modern airports.

Absolute rave reviews for the new airport from everyone I’ve been reading on social media who went.

At this point, every airport feels like a work in progress. I won't be disappointed if things are still being finished when I arrive for my first new terminal flight on March 15.

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
Seating areas seem a little cramp and constrained. To get around end of seating rows, one must walk out into concourse area.
