It's because it's expensive to employ an orchestra nightly.

Gailoyd has completed the purchase of the Old Republic Title building. The demolition is to begin sometime a month from now.

Power & Light Building owner buys nearby building

Kansas City Business Journal
The Power & Light Building's owner has bought neighboring property needed for the downtown Kansas City landmark's renovation, the project's developer said Wednesday.

Steve Brettell, agent for Gailoyd Enterprises Corp. of suburban New York, the building's owner, said the Old Republic Title Co.'s building at 1300 Baltimore Ave. will be razed after an environmental remediation.

So do they expect the demolition of that building to last from Middle January to the summer? I read another article that said construction would start in the summer time for the condos and parking garage.

Everyone knows that any demolition has to be followed with at least a minimum of a couple months of sitting around idle as a bare lot - in KC it is usually preferred that this phase last at least a decade or two.

that building has been around since at least the 60s and i'm sure they will excavate at least one level, so it's impossible to be sure when construction of the new building will start. is old republic even moved out of the building yet?

I like how the parking is a garage that is hidden behind the units.  Can't see it from the street, it backs up to the east side of the ugly Radisson.

In Miami, New York, Chicago, etc. EVERY new building being built hides the parking as much as they can, when i was in Miami my cousin asked where does everyone park becuase he didnt see any garages.  The cab driver said they hide them as much as they can becuase it increases the value of the building, and can make rent sometimes 25-50 dollars more a month.

Article in bizjournals regarding Old republic purchase

http://kansascity.bizjournals.com/kansa ... st=b_ln_hl
The Power & Light Building's owner paid $1.45 million to the Old Republic Title Co. for a long-contested parcel of land next to the downtown Kansas City landmark, Jackson County records show.

Gailoyd Enterprises Corp.'s purchase price, 31 percent more than the county's valuation, equated to $102 a square foot.

Gailoyd's purchase lets the buyer start a $157 million tax increment-financed plan that will spend $35 million to modernize the Power & Light Building
Thank god!  Aside from the ground level, that place was horrific on every floor!

I wonder how long the groundbreaking process will be.  It seems like they would be raring to go.
