The 1st 1500 jobs should be in place w/n 30 months.

A site plan for the project calls for a total of 3.66 million square feet of office space in 11 towers ranging from seven to 11 stories each.

Besides offices, the plan calls for two 120,000-square-foot data centers. a 155,000-square-foot conference center, a 75,000-square-foot early education center, a 125,000-square-foot service and distribution center, a 156-bed boutique hotel and a 65,000-square-foot grocery store. We can hope the grocery store is a Kroger one,Festival Foods,Albertsons or so on.

Burke said the project would also include a clinic, fitness and food-service facilities for employees, plus other restaurant and retail opportunities. Plans also call for a future commuter rail parking area, evidence of a belief that Kansas City's new streetcar system ultimately will extend to south Kansas City.

So looking at the site plans it looks like they have no plans for the old Ramada Inn hotel, the old Montgomery Wards building or the I-Hop. I wonder why they didn't get those parcels. I assume whomever owns those will be redeveloping them quickly. That hotel has to go. I would also like to see them buy Hillcrest Country Club and put it to good corporate use.

I think the Wards building is occupied.

Anybody seen any detailed site plans or renderings for this project? I would think they would have something more than what's been in the press if they are breaking ground this year.

For a 4 billion dollar project, I would expect to see something other than what looks like high school student came up with something in ten minutes for a class project. From an urban planning standpoint, it looks like there was about ten minutes of thought put into this.

Great for Cerner and South KC, but I really hope this is more than a bunch of cheap office boxes and surface parking lots.

They have not yet hired an architect for this.

Probably. There were cars outside of it and Burlington Coat about a month ago when I drove by.

The design really adds to the "neighborhood" aesthetic. I'm sure Cerner-ites will be moving nearby in droves. &&

I wonder if they will apply for grant money to build light rail from the back side of that parking lot to building entrance?

Taking the project to 87th Street makes sense. Should have included this added area in the first place.

Cerner announces plans to expand project on Bannister Mall site

On Tuesday, Cerner said it wants to make the project bigger by adding additional ground immediately to the northwest of the site.

"I think the fact they're continuing to expand the plan before they've even really started building says they're confident it is going to be successful for the area," said Vickie Wolgast of the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
