And the gap should probably widen from here.  The White Sox run differential is just ugly.  The Royals are at -26 and the White Sox are at -108.  Expected winning percentages for the Royals and White Sox based on those differentials are .477 and .407, respectively.  Actual percentages are .451 and .443, meaning the White Sox are about seven games closer to the Royals than would be expected.  The Royals have regressed a little lately, with the sweep by the Yankees a while back, dropping two of three to the Rangers, etc, but unless they suddenly collapse or the White Sox surge, they should tighten their grasp on fourth place now that they've finally broken through.  At least with tonight's win, they clawed their way back to .500 for the month of August.  Hopefully they can complete the sweep of the A's tomorrow and then head into Chicago with their three best starters (Meche, Nunez, Bannister) scheduled to go.

• "Chiefs" is #6
• "Kansas City NHL Articles" is #8
