I was there too since the PAC lines were too long. The first band (young trio) played to no one but the Latin Jazz band afterwards had a major crowd going for a couple hours. Was a good vibe I thought.coreyo wrote:I walked over around 11:30am and the lines were already crazy long. Decided to hold off. Figured there would be tours otherwise. Did anyone go to P&L afterwards? When I walked back, they had bands over there playing music...to no one.

This may seem like a stupid question, but was that actually projected on the backside of the PAC?

Yes, it a new trend in outdoor media that has become possible because of ultra high luminance projectors and modeling software.shaffe wrote:This may seem like a stupid question, but was that actually projected on the backside of the PAC?
Here is another cool demo. this is on the back of Digital Projections' headquarters in Atlanta.

That was amazing! is this something they could do on a regular basis? This would draw thousands down there on the lawn across the street to see that. Really stunning. It would be a must see for anyone visiting.

Here are transit-related some photos from the opening and this week. The view from the MAX station is great. I played a little with the curves that are incorporated into the MAX station.

I'm confused, was this actually projected onto the back of the building? Parts of seem like that's the case, but it's so vivid that I find it hard to believe this wasn't just a video or something shown on opening night. Can anyone enlighten me, please?Downtowner wrote:That was amazing! is this something they could do on a regular basis? This would draw thousands down there on the lawn across the street to see that. Yea, thats really cool. I couldn't believe it was real either. Makes it much cooler that they were actually doing it live. You can tell by seeing how the trees light up in the foreground and on the other side of broadway during the sequences. Plus the fireworks at the very end.
Quixotic is awesome!

WOW, that video is amazing. So glad they went all out for the opening. I'm surprised they didn't get more attention for that. I mean, CNN should have been showing a clip from the opening the next day. I guess KC is in sort of a 'national media desert.'
They should do a NYE countdown there every year! I'm sure they could come up with some great ideas!!

Awesome! How about something like this everynight. How spectacular if the PAC had some type of projection show running continuously. It would seem kind of "Blade-runnerish"!

Went to Sunday matinee. Concert experience was everything promised and expected. Pines of Rome went from solo nightingale singing to blazing Imperial Roman Trumpets with brass stationed in organ loft and right and left balconies. People were able to talk to audience from stage without and electronic amplification.
Some problems with moving people in and out from auditoriums and building. There are two main stairs one at east end and one at west. People instinctivly go to the closest with the result being a traffic jam. The quickest way in and out is to cross past the bar over to the stair to the other auditorium side. If ever 2 simultaneous events end at same time it will be a mess. Then there is only one stair leading down from main lobby floor to entrance level below. It would be easier to leave by the north door between the halls, unless of course one has a car in the garage.
Bars serve only cocktails and cold drinks. No more coffee, brownies, or cookies.
One thing cool about daytime performance is the skylights. The indirect light coming in over the canopy changes subtly as the sun moves and clouds cross it.
I think the lobby space is the most exciting lobby since Garnier's Paris Opera.

Good article and I finally got an official answer to my question:moderne wrote:http://www.arcspace.com/architects/Safd ... ffman.html
The Center has been designed so it can accommodate future expansion along the east side of the building.

Confirmed as well on up to date today w/ kraske. Glad they left it open as a possibility. Unfortunately, doubt we see it happen any time in the next 20 years.
