even if he stayed, his business would never survive the several years of construction around it. The roads would be closed, the utilites would be torn up, and traffic would be rerouted away from his site.
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.

Exactly...he's trying to delay this process, not work to improve the area. The arena proposal awaits approval by the city council, a process Thomas said he hopes to forestall by bringing forward his alternative

Why fight redevelopment?
Asked and answered...His bottom line was cheaper down there than say moving to Westport because downtown was dead

That rubberstamp guy is a total asshole. He has done everything in his power to stop downtown development and when he finally is being surounded by redevelopment, he wants to join in? By delaying the arena time table of course.
I think he knows exactly why the city will not have anything to do with him. They want his dumbass out of Downtown and for good reason.

Why should the City take his property away from him? He has stuck it out downtown all of these years with other undeveloped redevelopment plans so why can't he benefit like the ones doing development now?
I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Yeah he's "stuck it out" as some sort of Robin Hood for downtown right? He stayed because it helped his bottom line. He fought every type of redevelopment because it would hurt him to have property improved around him.aknowledgeableperson wrote:Why should the City take his property away from him? He's going to benefit from being bought out now that all this is going on around him. If he was so into redevelopment, why didn't he do it 10 years ago? He has zero intention of redeveloping that land.

He fought alot of the redevelopment plans because they would take his property from him and let others develop it. He was unable to develop it because of these plans. Maybe not the only reason but one of them. He didn't like the St Pat's parade because it kept customers away from his business and trashed his property.
Put yourself in his shoes. What would you do these past few years of owning the land and business?
Do you think the lady in Shawnee should sell her land for a golf course? Should the City condemn it.
Many people feel that their land is their land. Why do you think farmers fight so hard for theirs.

The owner of that store seems no different than American Formal....oppose the entertainment district, oppose the arena, basically oppose any momentum to move KC forward from 1956.KCPowercat wrote:article in the pitch about the rubber stamp empire falling. big sob story.

My mom was telling me tonight how she talked to the owner the other day. She said he's a really nice old man and she's been doing business with him for 10 years or so. He told her that he has until March to vacate, as does the rest of that block, and that he'll be moving. When she asked if he was staying downtown he said he'll be moving north of the river because he's had it with downtown.
