Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman...their clearance centers are approximately 25,000 square feet.DaveKCMO wrote:so that's 25 thousand square feet? i'm no retail whore, so what would be comparable in size?

H&M perhaps? They aren't usually that large, tho, right?
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.

Re: P+L Tenant Rumors
The 25,000 square foot, upscale department store is an incredibly smart move if it's true. You are able to offer a "boutique aesthetic" while retaining a sizable chunk of floor space. It makes the store seem more fashionable and like a gallery space opposed to a dinosaur box space (e.g. Nordstrom, Saks).
It would be very interesting if this store turned out to be an original concept (maybe Standard people involved as someone said?). Creating a new, local, destination, department store is just the type of thing needed downtown. It could turn into something of a trend setter for the region in terms of people visiting this store to see what is current and interesting in fashion.

I think something unique but a little more mainstream fashion wise would work better in that size....you've got a very captive downtown worker population just wanting to go shopping at lunch.

I guess you're thinking more along the lines of a Brooks Brothers. I think it would be toxic to gear the P+L retail towards the Town Pavillion crowd.KCPowercat wrote: I think something unique but a little more mainstream fashion wise would work better in that size....you've got a very captive downtown worker population just wanting to go shopping at lunch.
A Fred Segal-styled department store would certainly be something in line with Standard Style on steriods.
BTW, Fred Segal's 3rd store in the country is going to the Las Vegas W Hotel development if that helps put into perspective the brush strokes Cordish is using for the P+L.

Re: P+L Tenant Rumors
I don't know anything about Fred Segal stores...I'm just thinking a unique (to the metro) anchor tenant...little more forward thinking but something like Macy's....just my opinion.

Would they build another so close to Crown Center? Halls backed would be cool...but more contemporary.

Re: P+L Tenant Rumors
Cordish should be trying to do things that make KC stand out and a Fred Segal (Lohan gear) type merchant accomplishes that task. I'm not discounting the appeal of having mainstream retail offerings, but why not let Cordish do what they were brought in to do? Downtown could also use a TGI Friday's, but if Cordish wants to do Mosiac Lounge-- let 'em!KCPowercat wrote: I don't know anything about Fred Segal stores...I'm just thinking a unique (to the metro) anchor tenant...little more forward thinking but something like Macy's....just my opinion.

Re: P+L Tenant Rumors
Just saying...probably 10% of the KC population would rather see a W than a Doubletree(most people in KC metro probably haven't even heard of W), but that doesn't mean we should just go with what is the easiest and makes the most sense in the public eye. Strictly following mainstream taste and preference is the reason things like Village West exist and downtown retail doesn't. Of course people want mainstream retail and it's embarrassing we have so little, however, we should embrace any and all opportunities to increase the presence of unique and niche retail. I don't think bringing in a upscale, boutique retailer decreases the opportunities for more mainstream types of retail. We need to create an image that is nationally and regionally significant instead of creating one that is significant in KC exurbia aka the cultural ghetto.KCPowercat wrote: Hey, it's all in their hands....they know how to do it better than I do...

just saying....people working downtown outnumber residents 10 to 1 right now....giving them someplace to shop would work well.

I agree 110% with what you're proposing...we can just have sooo much more and I think Cordish is acknowledging that (e.g. W).KCPowercat wrote: forget it tk...I'll shutup
