The only place KC needs condo buildings right now is the 3 parcels that border P&L on the South.  That's it.  I'd think when the economy turns around in a few years those will be the first to get done.

well, given the option between a surface lot, vacant lot, or community garden, i think the last option wins every time.

I still think it was absolutely imbecilic on the part of Accardo and DST to tear down the postal garage that was there in the first place when they weren't absolutely ready to start building something.

But yeah, this sounds like a good plan although i'd like to see a site plan...
In a later phase, DST is considering building six solar-power town homes on the 18th Street side of the property.

McDonnell said the interior area where the garden was planned could be eventually used for a 100,000-square-foot building and still leave the combination rain-garden and landscaping buffer intact.

They didn't have much choice after they intentionally let it deteriorate beyond repair after purchasing it, evicting the tennant, and taking no steps to protect the building.

i wonder how we can increase the property values in this area to ensure they go toward a higher use? hmm...

The term "higher use" is relative.  From a financial standpoint, a check cashing place is a higher use but do people really want that?  I'm glad to see DST has the money to leave this corner as a clean slate for the future.

pretty sure you know what i mean by that phrase. relative may apply to those who don't frequent this board.

Was there a new plan for this spot?  I drive by it so often it's become commonplace and I can't remember if they're doing anything with the dirt pile.

I hadn't noticed this before, but looks like they are installing new sidewalks on that block along Broadway with what appear to be large spaces for plantings and what not.

is that part of the stimulus project for new sidewalks or is that all in the new green district?

This whole block is being prepped to be a block-sized stormwater management and urban gardening project.

Are there renderings anywhere of what this is going to look like?  The site is shaping up nicely IMO... but I jogged by last night and I could have sworn the sign said www.18broadway.com which is clearly not the site for this project.
