Picked up my bike from the River Market shop.

I'm happy, took a while but I can understand because it is probably their busy season.

I told them to fix anything they thought needs fixing. Only got me for $160. Fixed some electrical issues, added horn, checked the points and diagnosed that the choke was sticking. Said the carbs could probably use a cleaning but not a big problem. He also wanted to put a new battery in it but understood how badly I wanted it for the weekend and let me take it home. I also walked in about 10 minutes after closing as Mark was walking out the door and he stopped to put together the invoice and run my debit card. Very personable compared to most vehicular repair shops I've been to.

I told him I might be coming back to get 4-1 headers and a carb job next.

FYI, Mark said he is selling accessories (apparel and such) dirt cheap to get his numbers up with the suppliers. The only downside is you have to pick from catalogs. He said he is selling some leather jackets that retail for $450 bucks for $60 bucks. Not big on leathers ... he mentioned the brand, but I forgot.

Point being, give them a try if you need something...

I need another leather jacket like I need another hole in my head...but its a weakness - I'll check it out!
Plunk down $40 on a Battery Tender or Battery Tender jr. Your bike batteries will last 5 times as long - trust me!
I just replaced the original battery on my 2002 Electra Glide last fall. (5 + years) Compare that to 1-2 years without a tender.
Sure bike batteries are only $60-$90, (well, Harley batteries) but the more you can spread the money over a longer period, the better off you'll be!

Stick one on, let the pigtail drape out somewhere where it won't get tangled up in spokes, belt/chain or, in my case, rest against very hot exhaust and melt black plasticky stuff on your pipes and make you stop because you think your bike is on fire...right, well!

Sportster
...been thru 3 pigtails so far - you'd think i get it!

there is also an unofficial 4/20 holiday celebration down at grinders later too.

i'll probably hit both of them riding my red naked goldwing

down at the river market there were at least 100 harleys yesterday. saw some friends, hung out for awhile then went down to grinders. right before i left grinders about 15 harleys showed up. they were some of my friends from winslows. they had done winslows and then did john's deck and finally ended up at grinders.

I just thought it was interesting  outside the box thinking,  and the 2 wheels in front would get rid of the inherent geometry problem
of trike type setups.

the bike gave up on me all of a sudden friday afternoon. any motorcycle diagnostic geniuses around here? this is probably going to be tricky. I'm guessing it will take alot of $$$ and guesses before a mechanic will correctly diagnose it. im not sure if i feel like gambling....it ran so great friday morning. go to start it that afternoon and it wont stay running.

If there are any problem solvers I'll go into details...I've been doing web research all weekend.

Well - I'll take a stab at it.
What's it doin?
Lots a times its something simple. Fuel filter, ignition, coil. (harkening back to small engine class now)

Questions

1.) Is it getting fire?
2.) Is it getting fuel?

Figure that out and we'll go from there. Could be something as simple as a loose ground of vacuum line.

...not a wrench, but i play one on tv :D

I took it up to the River Market cycle shop. Ken said it's just the carbs, seemed pretty confident. So I'm going to have them rebuild those, check the valves, and put an electronic ignition on it.

What bothered me was I pulled the plugs one day and it looked like they were covered it oil...my sense of smell isnt the best, but I didn't think it smelled like gas...

And it was really strange that it ran perfect friday morning, and friday afternoon it was begging for a shit kicking. Wouldn't stay running but would keep starting. lots of gas or no gas would kill it. I wouldn't think dirty carbs would turn so ugly so quickly. I would expect a little foreshadowing...

anyways...for some reason I feel pretty comfortable with the shop in the river market. I'm going to pump about $800 into a $1100 motorcycle. (carbs=$300, valves=$300, igniton=$200) My total investment is still less than the difference on the insurance for a new motorcycle. Trying to stay optimistic...

I wish I had a freaking garage, I could probably handle and enjoy doing this myself....

Couple of shots from last year when the bunch of us went to Colorado instead of Sturgis.
Definitely some good times. That'd be the black Bagger DaBoss made me buy!

This is at Garden of the Gods - definitly a great place to ride.

 :shock:Skyline Drive, right outside of Canon City. Pavement is roughly 8 ft. wide. No guardrails. You screw up - you go down - fast - and a long damn way! Note my speedo on the left. Roughly 15 and I was goin fast for that road!
