Really, it should have been the other way around.  Could have taken more of the albino and less of the locals.
New Wizards stadium could put Sandstone to death....hopefully

Approximate # of touring acts, Aug 15 through Sept 14 (includes multiple acts per event) according to pollstar.com.

Concert Market (covers region, not just metro)
Chicago 643
Minneapolis 343
Kansas City 302 (includes Lawrence)
Detroit 294 (includes Ann Arbor)
Cleveland 225
St. Louis 190

There are also more acts in KCMO (120) than STL City (<100)  for the next month.

This is before Sprint Center and the updated Midland Theatre kick into gear.

Pretty underwhelming concert season ahead for KC in the spring and summer 2023. Seems like we're getting less of everything. Good news is we always have interesting local stuff that's as good as anything touring.

Any shows ppl are looking forward to? Skinny puppy at liberty would be fun but it's $100.

Os Mutantes at Record Bar, Robert Plant and Allison Krauss at Starlight and Built to Spill at the Madrid are a few on my agenda for Spring.

Also just saw that the New Pornographers are playing the Truman in April.

Caamp coming up at The Midland in September. Looking forward to that one.

100%

Also San Holo, whiskey myers, Nickel Creek and Goth Babe are a few I’m very excited about.

Ah yes. Every band name mentioned in these posts I’ve never heard of before, which probably isn’t uncommon. I’m surprised they can fill the Midland. Must have a decent following to do so.

Hopefully smaller groups continue to come in larger numbers. Maybe they’ll have their “breakout” moment here and become the next big group.

For the record I agree with Trailerkid, spring and summer do seem pretty light concertwise.

I just don’t know what happened to all the small/midsized festivals that used to be here. When I left KC in 2015 there was Middle of the Map, Red White and Boom, Boulevardia, Buzz Beach Ball, Rockfest, Dancefestopia, and even a Chipotle sponsored festival.

Now that’s all gone and it’s just Boulevardia and Dancefestopia. What happened??

Happened to see this on twitter today. Macklemore announced his new tour wearing a Royals jacket and there’s no KC date.

Is this a facilities issue? Is midland too small? Not a good design or old tech?

Midland was completely updated back in 2006/2007. The stage was enlarged too I believe.

Touring is slowly climbing out of the deep hole it fell in during the COVID epidemic. It will probably be a couple more years before things get back to normal.

COVID hit things hard, bands for to do less dates so they pick the biggest bang for the Buck cities. The Buzz dying really killed a lot of the alternative shows. They always did a great job of filling the calendar with shows. So I’m not sure who’s left out there as promoters to get bands back to KC. I don’t follow country acts at all & my pop music knowledge is very low.

I feel like the Bridge does a lot, but seems to be more Midland/Uptown scale shows down to recordBar/Knuckleheads

On top of the Buzz disappearing, the stranglehold that AEG (aka AXS) has on T-Mobile Center, KC Live!, Midland and The Truman really screws us with LiveNation/TicketMaster shows.

Basically, we're shut out of any show above a certain size unless they go to Grinders, Starlight or Uptown and two of those are outdoor venues with limited dates.

Any way to correct something like this? Do we need even more performance venues?

Municipal Auditorium is a ticketmaster venue right? Why don't more concerts go here?

Also do we know what the KC Current stadium will be affiliated with?
