I couldn't really tell if it was just a strange wall, but it looked like the south west corner was gone.  But I have no idea if that was already like that... i always see it from the east/north and never looked closely at the western side.

Part of that building was demolished years ago for the surface parking lot on the west side.

Are you tired of bad news?  Well here's some more:

900 Baltimore Ave. slated for demolition...jersey barriers up for a few days now.
The building in question: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... ,,0,-15.32

Pre-demolition inspection on Kiva web: http://kivaweb.kcmo.org/kivanet/2/permi ... 1&jur=KCMO

And this bldg is apparently on the national historic register: http://kivaweb.kcmo.org/kivanet/2/permi ... 1&jur=KCMO

On the bright side, we'll probably get automobile parking...something this area of downtown clearly lacks

It's the former Cosby Hotel...was supposed to be renovated into office space by Cumberland Development:  http://www.downtownkc.org/content.aspx? ... xCompID=82

It is in a TIF district named "Baltimore Place" and the developer is Cumberland Redevelopment Corp.

A rosy article from 2005
http://www.downtownkc.org/content.aspx? ... xCompID=82

The building is also known as the "Cosby Hotel"

Rick Powell is the developer.

The building was issued a hauling permit in the fall of 2009, which typically indicates an interior demolition taking place.  I am hard pressed to imagine why this building would be completely removed - I don't see any development permits but I certainly found a demolition permit.

There is also a TIF district that this building is a part of...

The original plans, done by Gastinger Walker Harden, show the building being utilized.

Also, the 2nd Amendment from back in March 2010 indicates the Cosby building was still part of the renovation project.

It is quite possible it is not being demo'd, but this looks like a demolition permit to me.

Another post from me!  It appears there was a building permit application for the building back in late fall.  I have a feeling the demo permit is for certain parts of the building, not the entire thing. But maybe someone can call Bryan Flynn at the city and find out?

well, i jogged by there on Monday and saw the building completely surrounded by jersey barriers, plus a couple large-ish 'dangerous building' notices posted in the storefront.

You should cruise by again.  Based on the development permit from November 25, 2009, there was a permit issued to "Construct new masonry wall and demo 1 story wing per plans reviewed for code compliance."
http://kivaweb.kcmo.org/kivanet/2/permi ... 8&jur=KCMO

That could very well be the low area in the SW corner of the building, by the alley:

a renovation would be great.  it's a wonderful building that should be preserved.  i live a block away and will be out running some errands in the neighborhood later.  i'll walk down that way and see if any changes have occurred.

yeah, i think that portion was already removed off the back for the new parking & entrance work done for the Lane Blueprint building next door.

The building at 10th and Grand has jersey barriers erected around it.  And, that's purely interior demolition.  FWIW.

DNA has confirmed: it is coming down. Emergency demo, so 72 hours or less.
