Re: Capping the Loop
Closed again today, all day, with no events in sight. This shit is ridiculous. It happens literally 2-3x a week like clockwork for no apparent reason. I've been biting my tongue on the topic again for months, but literally almost every time you seem to step outside the street is closed. What a waste and abuse of power. I wish I could close the streets the way Cordish does. At will.

Probably time to ping our council on this.

One of our next meetings we might bring this idea up and see what can be done

Had a thought the other day for this park -- can we put up some tables & chess in the park? That would be a really good touch and attraction for some. Should be so easy to do too.

And again. All day today, tonight, and presumably tomorrow. No events at T-Mobil Center. Must be for fan safety within P&L for Sundays game. However, that makes no sense because literally nobodys in the part of the street that's blocked off, and if it was really about safety then all bordering roads should be closed. Not just this baby chunk of Grand.

Re: Capping the Loop
Honestly, if I'm on the council -- and it is election season -- this is nowhere near the top of my list. Candidates have to talk about real basic stuff right now: crime, schools, homelessness, transit, housing, the city's climate response. This project helps none of those fundamentals and only adds infrastructure burden to their bottom line (MoDOT will likely force the city to take ownership of the remaining crossings, like they did with Main for streetcar).
While it's admirable that the private sector will play a role with design, construction, and management, don't think for a second they'll take on the liability that comes with owning multiple structures on top of a big federally funded asset. That will rest 100% with taxpayers.

That's really impressive. What does H&R Block have to gain from this? They are not that close to the park.

Re: Capping the Loop
I understand. But still Even Cordish and Loews are not donating that much are they?
It seems like Block is just mostly being a good downtown community citizen which is somewhat rare in KC and nice to see.

Some of it might have to do with Blocks office being nearby but also some has to be that they just care about downtown.

Re: Capping the Loop
So $28.6 is from the feds, $10 is from the Blochs.
If my math is right here that means cordish is contributing almost nothing so far.
If they ask for anything in the park, I hope they're invited to take a dip in the river unless that number goes up significantly.

Re: Capping the Loop
Bloch is being a good citizen for sure, but they can also see what the potential gains and impact there are from it to downtown. It will be a big project and catalyst for continued development. I also believe Bloch has other sub-companies in which they hold real estate, be it building or land, within the downtown area that would benefit, especially it a developer wants to buy what they hold to develop something.
So a nice win for the city, and for Bloch for sure.
