I am sure all of us have learned to never go to your place of employment and eat none the less.

Here's what the NE corner of E. 14th and Walnut looked like around 1930.  The "basketball mural" building in the second building north (has sign on roof) from the corner behind the 2-story retail building in the foreground.

A two story building in place for another two story building. I just wonder why the density of this area died and took all of the old buildings with it. It is nice to see the new buildings built up in this area to make it look more like something. Instead of surface lots taking up the area.

Comedic brilliance at its best, quite frankly.  After much internal debate, I've come to the conclusion that this is the work of a true genius, an artisan, a master of his/her craft in every sense.

Don't question it.  Just drink it in................

They have started planting trees all along 14th Street.  They started on Main and are working east towards Grand.

Good something to tell you that the black boxes are there before a person trips over them.

Usually people watch where they're going when walking, and when they see a black box in front of them they walk around them.

I too am amazed that there are not signs sticking out of each black box approximately 5'8" high alerting pedestrians to the impending danger.  In fact, there should also be an audible alert to tell one how close they are to colliding with the box.  "Sir, you are 18 inches from a trip and fall, please move to the interior of the sidewalk."

They have been touting these planter boxes as Michigan Ave styled, which would mean that they will have about an 18 inch fence around them immediately backed by shrubs.  If people can avoid walking into them on the crowded sidewalks of Chicago, I would think Kansas Citians(and Topekans) can also(unless they have never walked on a sidewalk before, just parking lagoons).

that's a stretch, IMO. they look like a cut-rate version of michigan avenue. same could be said for the ones along 12th street.
