Re: The Jones Ultra Pool
I'm kind of hesitant to jump into this argument just because I frankly don't care about the pool or anything, but I am kind of curious what other bar you know of that has a comparable effect on surrounding businesses to people vomiting out front at 3 in the afternoon when real patrons are trying to visit. Certainly people do vomit outside other bars, but it tends to happen more at 3 in the morning and is gone by the time non-bar patrons show up to the surrounding businesses. Whether or not the pool is actually hurting Cosentino's, I have no idea, but it seems really silly to me to argue that this is just the same as any other bar.KCPowercat wrote: This is one of the factors with a mixed use development. I am also sure jones/cordish works closely with the grocer to handle issues....
But really this isn't your issue...you have stated you hate jones as have others....do you really only hate it because of what you think its doing to the grocery's business? Riiight. You don't like the 'people' you have stereotyped that go there and have thrown the entire bar and those who may like it into one big stereotype you hate.
Not going to apologize for liking a roof pool that serves drinks and music downtown...just like others don't apologize for liking other bars that can/do cause incidents to surrounding businesses....nor should they.

Didn't this puking incident only happen once? I don't see that as an issue. If it starts to happen once a week or almost everyday, then there may be a problem...but just once seems like no big deal to me.

Re: The Jones Ultra Pool
I stated earlier that it is different due to the time of day. Its an isolated incident either way...if it does become a problem I would expect changes (maybe a bouncer on the first floor?)...nobody wants to see that at any time of day...
Fyi I have seen many a situation with an overly drunk / passed out person in the middle of the day around other bars....isolated as well.
Either way its a front to what people really don't like...younger people than them (in most cases) who don't fit their cliche partying at a pool. Its somehow ok by most here to attack them.

Hopefully, the grocery store at least sold a pack of gum out of this whole 'mess'.

Re: The Jones Ultra Pool
hehe, what are you guys talking about?
I've been out of the loop for a while, so it's been pretty interesting going through the threads. I randomly saw a picture of this place elsewhere and thought it looked cool. Regardless of the clientele (and/or perception of the clientele), it's pretty cool that this kind of concept is downtown.
I'm curious, what happens during the winter?

The fountain in the middle turns into a fire pit for marshmallows and the rest of the pool is filled with artificial snow for snow boarding tricks.

This place is just not really what I was expecting. I expected people lounging by the pool or hanging out in the linen cabanas with waiters bringing drinks, perhaps a spa area with massages or salon, and a higher-end clientele. I really thought they were going to selling memberships and it being a tranquil get away. Instead, everytime I've been up there, it's been Club MTV on spring break. It seems the high end route would have been a bigger moneymaker, but I guess if they're selling enough booze to make everyone sick then they might be doing alright with just getting a $10/$15 cover on Saturdays.

I too was at the grocery store and noticed the pathetic lady passed out, mostly naked by the elevators. I was so proud of her!

Haven't you heard? The next season of the Real World (after the DC one) is going to be in Kansas City. This place as well as the whole Live block was opened specifically for them!beautyfromashes wrote: Instead, everytime I've been up there, it's been Club MTV on spring break.

I believe member can use the pool every day, not just days open to the public...I am sure on those days its much more calm and relaxing. I have only been there on publicly open days...no way I am buying a membership.

Re: The Jones Ultra Pool
i was under the false impression people go to bars to get drunk. drive yourself to a different grocery store if you don't want to see people partying. the whole thing is funny.ColumbusParkian wrote: i've lived and worked in the city for the past 5 years, ever since i've moved to KC. I know that in my bar, our staff takes active measures to ensure that people don't get so drunk that they're passing out outside the door. it's called cutting people off, and it's a basic responsible business practice, simple enough.
I think by this point, the defenders of this bar are doing it just as blindly as they're claiming the detractors are bashing it.

Re: The Jones Ultra Pool
TrailerKid, you just prooved my point as to why the Jones might not be the best thing for Consentinos. Some people WILL drive to other stores because they don't want to walk over vomit and trashy girls passed out on the floor.
I won't be changing grocery stores as i prefer one i can walk to as apposed to driving to Westport or NKC.
I take issue with the attitude that people should be able to act like complete jackasses, and I somehow have the problem because I don't smile and say "PROGRESS!" when i see them.

Re: The Jones Ultra Pool
BTW DaveKCMO, the reason the doors to the park are again locked is b/c the city and Cordish are in disagreements about the leasing agreement, or so i've been told. Hopefully they get it taken care of soon. I had family in town last week and tried to take them up there but had no luck...
