Old Chicago is not opening. Famous Dave's is reopening in March, which is not good news to me. They are looking for employees for this "new" blues theme restaurant.

It'd call announcing your new business w/o your landlord's approval both stupid AND arrogant.loftguy wrote: I don't think it was that calculated. It seems to have been either stupidity, or arrogance.
As to who I am? I'm just a downtown employee that sometimes is privy to P&L information.

Famous daves set to reopen around march 4th. More open design and live music some nights...I think bringing in blues on nights would be a great move.

Put this place out of its misery
http://www.kansascity.com/2011/04/04/27 ... z1IewS67Nf?Two years ago, the new area franchisee for Famous Dave?s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que closed the location in the Power & Light District to convert it to an Old Chicago. But a deal was never worked out with landlord the Cordish Co., and the location reverted to being Famous Dave?s. Now the location, at 131 E. 14th St., is currently only open limited hours for lunch and dinner, and the franchisee said he is ?making some changes,? which could include a remodeling and perhaps a new concept. Cordish officials declined to comment Monday.

The 2-3 times I've been dragged there kicking and screaming, and the countless times I've walked by for whatever reason, they have never really been busy. I guess they probably do OK during the Big XII tourney or whatever, but seriously... that place is just dead.

Probably Cordish's biggest tenant miscalculation. This has to go into the annals of the "what were they thinking" category. But unlike several others, it's still in business.mean wrote: The 2-3 times I've been dragged there kicking and screaming, and the countless times I've walked by for whatever reason, they have never really been busy. FWIW
The Famous Daves in the Branson Landing is a busy place.

I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

It belongs in Olathe or Overland Park but they don't have location in Johnson County on the KS side. Also they dont' heve on in Jackson or Cass County either.

If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

Walked by here at 12:30 today and it was closed. Talked about "limited" lunch hours. From the outside it looke like it is done.

I'm not sure it belongs anywhere on earth. The fact that it remains in business is more baffling than the existence of the Great Pyramid of Giza.WSPanic wrote: Olathe and OP have plenty of good BBQ. It belong in Illinois or Indiana.

Re: P&L Famous Daves being Converted to Old Chicago Pizza
I wish one of the of the bbq joints would do a truck during lunch hours downtown. Seems like a no-brainer. Obviously, it'd be more like a catered truck where the cooking wouldn't happen there, but they would do the prep right there. Cut the meat and likewise.KCPowercat wrote: Damn now I want BBQ for lunch and we have no walkable downtown bbq.....angry face.

I don't know if there are any economics to support it, but imagine a Gate's mobile trailer that could show up downtown, at the Plaza Arts Fair, at the American Royal, late night in Westport and P&L, etc. Just so long as the servers still shout the "Hi, may I help you!" They could just have a bunch of pre-made beef on buns w/ fries, some Georgie Burgers, and other packaged things that can be put together ahead of time. It seems like Gate's lends itself to this type of thing more than other places.
Both Gate's and Bryant's are probably too close to open another location downtown, so this could bridge the gap. Other than that, Cordish should be sending Okie Joe's gold bricks in the mail.
