SWA is happy with the new terminal but it does seem wise to hold back on any new terminal-specific additions for a few months.

I echo my earlier comments that their major stations at STL, DEN, and BNA will make it hard for KC to become a major SWA focus city.

Makes sense to give some buffer to works any kinks out.

DEN I think is going to be the biggest hinderance. They are going to make it huge. A lot of new gates to fill there.

For one, it's not daily nonstop, it's 4x.

I buy the $3 million government number. I'd want to see the jobs Ohio information.

Does anyone else think these airline incentive programs are quickly turning into a racket? $11 million in incentives for a narrowbody airline who's connectivity isn't much better than Icelandair's is absurd and the service will likely end the instant the money is exhausted like it did for Hartford. Almost double what STL shelled for LH. Mediocre Midwestern cities essentially going into an incentives bidding war to land TATL service. This isn't healthy or sustainable and is setting up an undesirable precedent.

For KC, Aer Lingus should be a back pocket option if we can't convince BA or DL to launch something.

BTW, DL is upgrading MCI-LGA to an A220 on Saturdays only.

Didn't SW also announce their major expansion at Denver after the new KCI terminal was a done deal? DEN has been adding more gates than the entire new KCI will have.

I have always said that if KC had built this airport just 10 years sooner, it would likely be a SW focus city because it was obvious at one time SW wanted to do something more with KC but then all of the sudden just stopped that effort and moved on. I think it will be difficult for KCI to become more than a regional airport that feeds into hubs at this point. The airlines, especially SW, are now just too established at DEN and STL. KC should still get a few more flights though as the airlines will no longer try to totally avoid it for connecting passengers. I can see Delta adding a few more now that KCI will not be such a disaster to use for Delta frequent flyers.

Hopefully KC will get a direct flight to Europe too. If the state subsidized the Frankfurt flight in StL they should do the same for KC.

^The state didn't subsidize the flight to Frankfurt in St. Louis, private businesses did. The state is offering money for an international flight to come to KC now, so hopefully that helps achieve that goal.

The jobs Ohio info is in the document in that tweet.

And I’m sure it won’t be full amount. It will be prorated based on the percent of daily they fly.

Also important to remember is STL was $5-6 million + significant purchase agreements from local business.

Looks like November and December 2 of 4 are A220s during the week also. I think that’s new, right?

That was a Covid suspension they’re bringing back on.

Better idea for my 🌻 Sisters and Brothers:

"Use the fund to put up $5M to match the incentive Missouri has set to support an international flight from the improved KCI. 60% of our passengers are Kansans. It makes sense for businesses and the flying public in Missouri and Kansas."
