Sometimes. One of the projects mentioned was the Urban Outfitters project. Which KS got, and in the KC Metro. MO wanted it in Cass County.

It's not particularly a meaningful way to measure. They need to compare to other states as well as all states 'lose' in some form, it's really about the % of deals lost vs gained and this rudimentary 'study' doesn't go there. And when MO side of metro loses to KS side of metro, it's not as bad as losing to a more distant state as MO still gains a bit from the KS side metro jobs for things like downtown events, sports, market GDP, etc. Nothing to learn from this article.

It's not surprising that Missouri lost an opportunity to get a Toyota/Mazda assembly plant with 4000+ jobs when they pitched Sedalia and Lamar, Missouri as locations.

Kansas City is the obvious location. We already have two vehicle assembly plants, and numerous other supplier manufacturing facilities in the metro area. We are the second largest rail center in the country, and a huge trucking and logistics center. The city is putting bids out for a huge solar farm at the airport that could alone supply power for 1/3 of city households.

With a prospective $4 billion #Panasonic factory under consideration, #DeSoto has changed its code so battery manufacturers no longer need a special use permit to build in the city's industrial zones.

Think that was about Missouri. Most of the sites they seemed to pitch in that article weren't KCMO though

Oh I know it was MO, but you know the local media likes to give us the shaft by and means whenever they can (including using MO’s state failures against us) and it’s funny because not even that far-flunged attempt to shaft us can hold now

At least they finally found a use for the Sunflower site - that's been an ugly mess for decades.

Kelly says 4000 jobs plus another 4000 from spin-off from it. 8000 total.

I was wondering if spinoff jobs would be significant, supporting vendors, etc. Didn't expect that high for something as less complex as a battery in terms of materials involved - compared to say auto manufacturing. I suspect those numbers are a bit bloated but will give it benefit of doubt that it's notably more than the base core jobs. Not familiar with the industry but industry studies are often bloated or represent rarely attainable highest possibilities. Even 4500 is a win.

This is huge. Take away the federal government and area hospitals and Panasonic becomes the third largest employer in the metro. It will have a huge impact on SW metro housing as well.
