Could KC host the FIFA World Cup?

They will probably have to once they realize how expensive it is to air condition 10+ stadiums for 4+ weeks in 120 degree heat.  Either that or the price of gas will conveniently go up.  I'd bet that many US companies would be afraid of the PR from advertising in a country that represses women.  Lord knows what changes will happen both in Russia and in the Middle East by then.  I hope there won't be a circumstance where certain countries pull out of the event.

How exciting it will be for fans to hang out in hotels all day if they want to drink, make their way to a 120 degree tailgate(?) for pre-game, then sit inside an artificially cooled stadium.  Sounds like a great way to spend 10 Gs.  Japan's promise to beem the games in 3d sounds better than this.

With it looking increasingly likely that the World Cup will be moved to the winter in 2022 to accommodate the harsh summers in Qatar, there's a growing chorus of soccer mover and shakers who are pushing various leagues to adjust their schedules accordingly. The latest person to add his voice to such a move is UEFA President Michel Platini. The Bloomberg article says Platini first suggested such a move in 1998

January and February are in the upper 70's, December and March in the mid-upper 80's.  Beyond that it's going to be hot.

USA eyes potential 2022 World Cup revote

Influential FIFA member Theo Zwanziger, president of the German Football Federation, demanded on Wednesday that Qatar be stripped of its hosting rights pending a full investigation ? and that a new vote should be taken if any corrupt activity is unearthed.

?There is a certain degree of suspicion that one cannot sweep aside,? Zwanziger told the BBC. ?I must expect that awarding this World Cup under these conditions needs to be examined anew.?

USA eyes potential 2022 World Cup revote

The good news is, 2022 is a long ways away.  The bad news is, the corruption and pompous attitudes at the top of FIFA are so thick, it is still unlikely that Qatar has the event taken away for FIFA's fear of losing the power in the position.

That said, it would be unreal to have KC back on the table as a potential host city for 2022, and further incentive to have phase 2 or 3 of our rail plan in play.
