Locked, dark, and construction supplies all over inside.

From some facebook sleuthing:
We are excited to begin our soft open but we have to do a little more construction over the weekend to the shop to fulfill the required permits. Stay tuned... we will be pushing hard to open to the public next week. Thanks for your patience and we look forward to sharing the new location with you very soon!

May have missed news on this in the past, but noticed that the brick was being taken off of the building at 1706 Wyandotte this morning.

Found a rendering of the apparent renovation to come...

Are these particular buildings being restored closer to their historical look? I actually liked the brick that was on them (until yesterday), but noticed a newly exposed block-filled window that was hiding underneath the layer of brick.

El Dorado has been working on a design for the tiny Triangle Park at the intersection of Southwest, Chavez, and Pennsylvania. Still needs funding, but cool to see ideas for these little spaces. Maybe Crossroads West apartments will chip in some funding?

funny you should suggest that, but cityscape WILL contribute capital ($50K, i'm told) and ongoing maintenance costs for triangle park. it has been submitted for this PIAC cycle to construct (having already been designed by el dorado, see above) with crossroads and DTC support.

there is also an effort to rename the park after the late lynda callan.

mixed-use redevelopment coming to 1721 walnut. more details to follow.

1706 locust also being redeveloped into office space.

east crossroads residential projects are being discussed, but nothing is solid. this is needed to balance out the retail and bar/restaurant explosion.

NE corner of 20th and main has changed to KC ownership (was previously with a bank from desoto). will go vertical, but exact plans not firm.

garage project being considered for 16th & walnut (currently all surface parking). more than just garage, but details TBD.

1706 Locust is a truck lot, isn't it? So are we talking new construction, or did you mean the address across the street?
sorry, the address across the street. must have written it down wrong. it's the 2-story red brick building just south of justrite stamp.

How can you say it's horrible? The outside isn't finished yet.
I still hate it.

ICYMI -- resurrection church will buy the kc star lot on grand: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/ar ... 97300.html
The church needs additional parking for the more than 1,000 people its downtown campus at 1522 McGee St. attracts each weekend, as well as offices, classrooms and additional worship space nearby.

It also expects to build on the site in the future, maintaining the parking capacity, said Scott M. Chrostek, pastor for the downtown campus, which is part of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection based in Leawood.

So this basically means it will stay surface lot parking for the time being or at least until the church decides to build low-density, low rise facilities to support the parish?

Was definitely wishing for a large mixed use development there. Or at least large residential construction.
