Amazon Air is on track to pass UPS as the second biggest cargo airline at KCI in 2022. Just a few million lbs difference in 2021 despite amazon starting in May. I would imagine UPS will catch back up once their expansion opens

Besides, the actual construction IS being paid for by taxpayers.
It's a user fee that pays for it. If you don't use the airport, you don't pay for it. Don't be a dick.

Aloha. I can deal with that.

Don’t know how relevant this is to KC, but apparently Spirit is being bought out by Frontier airlines, which will more than Double Frontiers fleet size. Unsure how this will affect KC service once complete, seeing as Frontiers main Hub and HQ is in DEN.

^Hmm, that may result in more KC flights transferring through DEN and less point-to-point. A higher chance anyway?

That was my thought as well, I’m not optimistic it’ll benefit us to say the least

If the case, more reasons KC needs to create conditions for starting up a new locally based airline. At least some time in future when demand at right level.

Midwest starting back up might be the chance we need. Given they aren’t homegrown, they do have a history of using KC as a hub back in the 2000’s

How would this happen?

Any kind of private equity group could trigger it but a broader way to boost chances is for local ecodev groups to facilitate, do some initial studies, then inquiry with private equity groups when the #s look good enough and also work with local govts for appropriate level of incentives. KC having its own locally based airline would probably have better economic return than a transatlantic flight and much better control of its destiny than being in than hands of major airlines with feeble if any commitments for mid-sized markets.

Not sure what the process was for Vanguard but they made it happen and apparently 911 later killed them.

I miss vanguard. $99 round trip to NYC (granted it was 1999).

I don't think I've seen it in this thread, but it looks like Jet Blue is going to be flying nonstop to JFK for dirt cheap, $79 -$99. I heard this starts in April and also to Boston.

We really should have our own airline. We’re literally right in the center of the country. And we’re getting a brand new airport.

Saw Alaska Portland restart got pushed back again to mid May.

AA did another schedule chop for April and May.
Only 3 a day to ORD seems light. Only one of those is mainline
3x CLT
2x phl
1x Mia
Would be nice to see those higher.

UA down to 1 a day to DC.

Hopefully these can hold at the original schedule soon. Seeing chops every month gets depressing. I get it happens to everyone, but still.

The flight options to KC from DC airports are abysmal now. There were twice as many flights when we first moved out here.
