actually 3 bud look at the one in the background
the one on the right may be 14 floors but it is as tall as a 15-16 floor one.
also that is only part of the rendering like it said

Yeah, I predict downtown thriving. I also predict JOCO trying to steal other downtown businesses. My final prediction is that KCK will remain a shithole.KCDevin wrote:So any predictions as what will happen if they move downtown?

I think the red brick building in the background is not part of H&R, but is the site of the Jones Store. Notice the retail on the ground, with parking above, which is what Time Equities was proposing. Also the green space along 13th, which I think is just to the rear of the H&R buildings.

Devin noted that 2555 Grand was 500,000 square feet, so wouldn't the new H&R have to be around the same height or even a bit taller (25+ floors)?

did you look at the renderings here?

The DST Block 25 Building (quality hill) is 5 or 9 floors and is 500,000 square feet

probably, but remember, the renderings in the paper are just that, renderings. I think it may just show the style of building. My gut feeling is that the final design will differ significantly from what we've seen today.

How can the renderings be final on the day the project was announced? The whole thing was engineered and drafted to be final before the public even knew about it.

renderings are just that--renderings. once they enter the design phase a better idea of what the project will look like will emerge. but i can promise one thing--there is going to be one helluva big green box on top of the building.

I love the concept of the circular plaza fronting the building. Its a good concept. I like the fact that there is a good bit of open space and glass. The rest of the south loop will fill in quickly, thanks to H&R Block!

What happens to H&R Block's current HQ on Main when the new HQ opens? Has anyone speculated on that yet?

The old headquarters will probably rot for 20 or 30 years, then the city will try to find someone to revitalize the area.

Considering this is going up across the street and the Plaza is still the hottest market in the metro. They will be ok. But nice positive thoughts.CGPinFL wrote:The old headquarters will probably rot for 20 or 30 years, then the city will try to find someone to revitalize the area.

I take everything back I said and personally congratulate Block for doing the right thing. This is what tiffs and tax breaks are supposed to be used for.
Go KC, you really are coming back.
Now about that arena Barnes...

I wonder, can H&R Block expand before 2013?
Also, is it possible for the city to preserve the President Hotel instead of destroying it? (it would look weird to have nothing around the P&L Building for half a block)
