How can you make money selling something when nobody is buying?  If those parking lots could be sold for development they would be sold.  Yes, owners can make money with parking but they could make more money if the land was sold.

Not saying residences are not needed but the actual demand for housing is not as great as your perception.
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

So you're not going to even let them try? If nobody is buying, then the sellers won't sell. So what? They can't sell now. I don't see the need for a regulations effectively closing this market off.

I don't think he means selling the lots necessarily for development, but you could also sell them to other businesses that need the parking more than you, or lease them out. Or they could expand the size of their building. Or create lovely landscaping. Or do any number of things that could improve their business. But they can't due to stupid parking requirements.

Nice story on the grocery store on fox 4.  Decent reporting for once.  Rather than making the story all about why the opening is delayed, they really made it look like it will be worth the wait.

cool, so the man says January 7th is their opening date.  Actually sounds doable.
KC Region is all part of the same animal regardless of state and county lines.

Sounds like the food sections in a lot of the department stores in Europe.  Full service groceries but with a variety of little restaurants embedded.  Sounds neat.  Hope it's not too expensive.

I walked by a couple of times yesterday and it's starting to look good in there.  The flooring is in, most of the cases were being set up, and they were installing/testing the sprinkler system yesterday afternoon.

I've been by a few times lately as well.  Looked great, but I was kind of surprised at how few rows of traditional shelves there were.  Looks like they might be concentrating more on the prepared lunches and extras than having a full retinue of dry-goods shelves.  Hopefully they will stock smart to where it still has everything needed even with the limited space.  I guess if you think about it, most stores waste a lot of space.  Entire row for paper towels, entire row for cleaning supplies, entire row for soda, entire row for dog food, entire row for cereal, etc.  Guess you can get rid of a lot of that stuff by carrying a limited number of brands and condensing several rows into one, and re-stocking more frequently.  As well run as their Brookside store is, I'm sure they have it all figured out.

I've noticed this as well. The big box monstrosity stores all have a whole fucking aisle comprised of nothing but GREETING CARDS alone! Seriously, what is that shit!? And why the hell does society need instant access to so many canned and pre-printed expressions of emotion? And who are these people constantly sending greeting cards to everyone? I don't get it.

Anyway, I really like the Brookside Cosentino's, so I'll try to visit the one downtown too. I drive from here in midtown to Brookside for the Cosentino's, totally avoiding Marsh's Sun Fresh because of its overall lousiness. Only thing is I've never seen a grocery store so full of yuppies as the Brookside Cosentino's, but whatever.

Toss, you must not send many cards. Have you ever tried to find a card that fits the occasion and with a sentiment that seems to be You? I find there needs to be more cards not fewer, but I guess I'm not the usual card buyer that takes what he can get.

Then again I don't buy cards at grocery stores.

True I really never send cards, although I've bought those boxes of like a hundred or so blank ones where I can write whatever I want. Still, I don't grasp the need for such an all encompassing array of something as trivial (in my view) as greeting cards.

Kev, have you been in the huge Price Choppers and Hy-Vee's and seen the gargantuan aisles of greeting cards? Whenever I see them I try to make sense of it and can't.

As long as those cards are designed and manufactured in KC, I would be happy if supermarkets around the nation had two aisles of greeting cards.  Good for the local economy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were printed in Chinese sweatshops. Hah!

Pumpkin, you know me, always misanthropically wishing misfortune, pestilence and plague upon those all around.

Now, can both of you guys get back on topic now, seriously! Sheesh! Thread hijackery is frowned upon, ya know...
