I've been by a few times lately as well. Looked great, but I was kind of surprised at how few rows of traditional shelves there were. Looks like they might be concentrating more on the prepared lunches and extras than having a full retinue of dry-goods shelves. Hopefully they will stock smart to where it still has everything needed even with the limited space. I guess if you think about it, most stores waste a lot of space. Entire row for paper towels, entire row for cleaning supplies, entire row for soda, entire row for dog food, entire row for cereal, etc. Guess you can get rid of a lot of that stuff by carrying a limited number of brands and condensing several rows into one, and re-stocking more frequently. As well run as their Brookside store is, I'm sure they have it all figured out.
I've noticed this as well. The big box monstrosity stores all have a whole fucking aisle comprised of nothing but GREETING CARDS alone! Seriously, what is that shit!? And why the hell does society need instant access to so many canned and pre-printed expressions of emotion? And who are these people constantly sending greeting cards to everyone? I don't get it.
Anyway, I really like the Brookside Cosentino's, so I'll try to visit the one downtown too. I drive from here in midtown to Brookside for the Cosentino's, totally avoiding Marsh's Sun Fresh because of its overall lousiness. Only thing is I've never seen a grocery store so full of yuppies as the Brookside Cosentino's, but whatever.
