looks like they missed their "end of 2006" date for travel times and My Scout functionality...
We are getting ready to launch Scout's Travel Times next Tuesday, January 9th. Then we will resume efforts to finalize plans to launch "My KC Scout" alerts by early February. The Travel Times enhancement required more of our resources then we previously thought so we've held off on launching the alerts enhancement until Travel Times were launched.

Scout is getting less federal money for operations in 2007, so that might also a cause of the missed deadline.

are they going to do travel times on the boards?  I've been to a couple cities just recently that have done that and it seemed to be a good usage for the signs.

Agencies working to control congestion

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascit ... 413309.htm

The Kansas City metro area is projected to add more than 23,000 workers a year. And even though state transportation departments are tackling major roadwork projects at the area’s chronic bottlenecks, such as Interstate 35-U.S. 69 in Johnson County, the Paseo Bridge and I-70 east of downtown, funding for new roads is increasingly taking a back seat to basic road maintenance.

They had the travel times up on SB I-35 this morning.  Took me a second to figure out what was going on.

assuming the accuracy is there, this will be very helpful for me in the morning. my commute is a straight shot down 35 south to 435, which is one of the travel times listed (635 and 69 were the other two).

They had it SB on 35 on the way out of DT.  It would appear that they have all of the signs programed to display the travel time to the next three or so major exits.

example:

Time To:
I-69  5 minutes
95th  8 minutes
I-435  12 minutes

I saw the same thing around 4:00pm today going Northbound toward downtown.

Downtown
5 miles
5 minutes

Downtown
2 miles
2 minutes

Didn't see anything on my way from on Southbound 71, but not sure if they will have it here or not.

On wb I-70, they said 27 minutes at Woods Chapel at 8:30.

Pretty close to the time I made.

I traveled the entire stretch of 635 today, I saw no signs structures going up.  Wonder when those go in.

I was all over the city today and they were on everywhere in every direction.  But if you are curious, just log in during rush hour and click the icons for signs with text and they will all show up.

STL's Gateway Guide (www.gatewayguide.com/atis/index.html) now uses the same GUI (or whatever it's called) as Scout.

Star reports that the travels are causing some congestion.  People are slowing down to read the signs.  Hopefully folks will get used to reading them more quickly...  The DOT's are going to air TV commercials telling drivers to read faster.  Jeez.

Yep, same for me, I was amazed it was to the exact minute from near 18th street to 69 hwy. And there's no way to try and beat it either... without causing a major wreck.  :D
the only thing for sure is change.

the travel times are also available on the website. just click on the sign you want to check and a pop-up window will display exactly what drivers are seeing.

no word yet on when the text messaging functionality will go live.

I was on I-70 westbound last night, just before the Benton curve and the sign posted "3 miles/3 minutes".  I was going the posted 45 mph and I promptly sped up to 60 because I wasn't going to make it otherwise.

Can you hear it now, " But, Judge your honor sir.............."
