What about name changes for Troost Park and for Troost Lake? Since Laugh O Gram is diagonal to Troost Park how about Disney Park. Troost Lake could be Street Car Lake since the street car line built it.

Not sure if it counts as a Troost Development, but a 54-unit, 4-story building is planned at 2708-32 Forest Avenue. Vecino Group is the developer. Elevations and renderings reveal a basic building. It'll be called "The Mabion".

Could be on Troost, maybe on Forest.

It’s on Forest. There will be a public alley between Troost and Forest. The project itself is a RFP by the church on 28th and Forest and will be entirely affordable housing. I believe some of the housing trust fund monies got allocated to this project to make it be more feasible.

An application for a business license for a "tavern with live entertainment" has been filed for the Apollo Theater space.

I have heard talk of this being a music venue, but I don't know the details.

I'm hoping that a certain neighborhood association president who lives nearby and seems to oppose any liquor licenses in the area doesn't try to block this.

If Abnos sold the building maybe there is hope for the Armour Blvd property to be sold into more capable hands.

Cityscene is reporting that the public radio station, KCUR, is moving to a new building across from Rockhurst University on the southwest corner at 53rd and Troost. The station currently is located in a building owned by UMKC at 4825 Troost. El Dorado architecture appears to be the firm designing the new building.

On one hand, it is good that something is finally happening on this land, but this use is a little disappointing. UMKC has had this land slated for mixed-use development for a very long time.

As far back as 20 years ago or so, there was talk of partnering with Rockhurst to build a sort of "college town" district on Troost for this land and some of the bordering lots the two universities own. I believe that an RFP was put out several years ago, but I don't think anything ever came of that. Even on the most recent campus master plan (2021) it was shown as "mixed-use opportunity".

I think UMKC has decided to focus more on the west end of campus, especially with the streetcar extension. It's pretty disappointing how both universities turn their back on Troost. With all of the smaller-scale additions to that stretch of Troost, like Tiki Taco, Urban Cafe, Blackhole Bakery, Scholars Row, it seems like it would be a great opportunity for the universities to build that area into a nice district for their students.

There is an "estate sale" currently going on in the old Apollo Theater building (a staging company is liquidating their inventory and having a pop-up sale in the space).

I spoke with the guy running the sale and he didn't have any details on future plans for the building, but he said that the new tenant takes over on November 1st.

Here are some pics of the interior. Unfortunately, there is not much left of the original details. The ceiling medallions are about the only things left intact

Hey all. Does anybody know what's going on with the brick building on the southwest corner of 42nd and Troost? I know the building has had issues with homeless starting fires in the past. Seems like a prime location and Hyde Park/Manheim Park could really use some more neighborhood serving businesses around.
