Not going to happen. FIFA is locked in, there into the deep planning stages for each city.

See example: beer sales for Qatar

No one talks about it, but the US is always the emergency world cup host should something go wrong because we have so much infrastructure available for it and can run a tournament on relatively short notice.

Ecuador didn't want Copa America so the us is hosting now. And that's in 2024. Back in 2003 we hosted the women's world cup with a few months notice.

Which is just to say, there's plenty of time to spin up a city to host. They just announced the format. I think if Chicago called, the phone would be answered.

Oh no doubt, we’re leagues ahead in regards to a lot of that, especially stadium infrastructure. It’s definitely not top of the list though, as fifa would likely try and iron out issues before immediately pivoting.

Coming out of a successful Kansas City NFL Draft, it makes me think about how very, very big the World Cup in the city is going to be. Longer in time, people from all over the world, world press coverage... I think we proved with the Draft that we can be very successful at an event like this and, I think, should put us in the running for one of the United States games. Sure, there are cities with more hotel rooms and more restaurants and entertainment. But, I don't think many will let an event totally take over the city like Kansas City will. Every person in the city would be geared for it and doing what they can to put on a good show for the fans and the world.

I would assume it means significant financial contributions from both Missouri and Kansas

Bistate funding? I’m trying to think of what would be big enough to call the press in.

Maybe major announcement for training in Kansas and matches in Missouri with shared costs?

Could be related to end of leg session. MO is giving $50 to Arrowhead and iirc KS ~$10 million to SKC Stadium.

I've heard it's the announcement of the WC KC theme and brand. Each city has its own?

Can it just be "we have come together to both chip in $5 mil for a trans-atlantic flight package" because that would get me much more excited than $50 mil in upgrades for a stadium that's going to get overhauled in a few years anyway

I wonder how many people that keep begging us to spend infinity to get a transatlantic fight actually fly transatlantic.

Or they just think it’d be really cool.

If the brand has anything to do with the Wizard of Oz or tornados I’m going to move from the city.
