Sad.
I wonder how KS Tea Partiers feel about having their tax dollars subsidizing a Chinese company.

I'd be willing to bet that AMC Corporate leaves the KC area within 5 years for LA

There is no way I'd build them that HQ if I was Kansas that's for sure.....but anybody want to bet against them going full steam ahead?

Aren't they already committed? Shades of TransAmerica all over this deal.

How could Kansas be committed? Wouldn't they have built protection into any contracts around changes in ownership? Fools.

@AMCTheatres: @downtownkc Our plans to move the AMC Theatre Support Center to Leawood, Kan., have not changed. We’ll remain in the KC Metro area. -Jordan

Yeah, just like Sprint/Nextel. Management said the headquarters would be in Virginia, but it eventually came back to Overland Park. I am not confident that AMC will remain in the KC Metro for long. Maybe a few years while the integration gets done.

It was interesting that AMC was owned by a group of equity firms prior to the sale (including Bain Capital). There seems to be a pattern with great KC companies that lose local ownership; eventually they become shadows of their former selves and end up all but leaving the area. AMC is following that mold (e.g., Marion Labs and many others).

According to this article the TEVA incentives "approached $53 million".

It is behind the paywall at the Business Journal, but it is on page three so you can use the free preview of this week's addition to read part of it.

$53 million to move 400 employees six or seven miles is nuts.

i could maybe get behind this if they were wooing them to come downtown, but the company has already ruled that out. sounds like it would be out in the 435/holmes area, aka college blvd east. this crap needs to stop.

I've also heard rumors of the EDC getting close to landing a major tech firm DT....nothing to do with the border war, but just thought i'd stir the rumor pot.

KCMO needs to stay far away from this.

They should put out a release declining to pursue them and laying out exactly why it makes no economic sense.

This is what KCMO needs to be focusing its energies on: growing the local tech industry and bringing those companies downtown.

Freightquote at I-435 and State Line Road? Yeah, that's exactly the kind of stuff KS is doing.
