Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
It's fine for driving. It's not good for driving fast though, and a lot of people think they're immune to physics. So they get in wrecks with amazed looks on their faces, or they run off the road, come to a rest, and start spinning their tires, polishing tire-shaped ruts into the ground.
People are dumb.
People are dumb.

IT isn't good for driving when your windows get ice on them almost immediately after you've scraped it off... And it isn't good when you have to watch out for the dumb drivers that think they are gods, and immune to physics.

The heavy snow track shifted north from OKlahoma-SE Kansas to Kansas-Missouri.

It's slippery out there, don your helmets, everyone!dangerboy wrote: Can't wait to get home and spend the evening with the blue glow of the TV and the soothing dulcimer voice of Katie Horner.
I love living in the city! No vehicles required! I have extra respect for our bus drivers at this time, however, because they must continue to operate and the safety of so many people depends on them.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
The latest from Gary Lezak has us back on track for signifigant snow. Exciting!

I know I took you on an emotional ride today. I am sorry for that, but in the end IT IS HAPPENING. Almost as predicted!
The comma head is now forming over Oklahoma and Kansas. The northern edge will very likely line up north and west of Kansas City. This will place us in some very heavy snow by the evening rush hour. So, everything is back on track. I should have been more patient. Two hours of sleep will do that for you.

They're actually driving safer vehicles than most, because of their broad center of gravity.beccanator wrote: I have extra respect for our bus drivers at this time, however, because they must continue to operate and the safety of so many people depends on them.

Right, but everyone else is driving like an idiot not to mention that everyone's tensions are high so I'm sure people riding the bus are extra irritable, especially when slow going on certain routes causes them to have to stand in the cold, miss a transfer or just draws out their already lengthy commute. Bus drivers put up with a lot of s**t from riders and they often get little of the respect they deserve.bahua wrote: They're actually driving safer vehicles than most, because of their broad center of gravity.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
This storm has thrown everybody for a loop here in the metro. First about a week ago, it was predicted to be a big storm. Then a day before the storm, they decided no precipitation was going to happen.
Wednesday 11/29- Around 12:30 or 12:45, heavy sleet starts to fall
By 1 pm- All cars are covered in a sheet of ice
By 2 pm- The roads are very, very slick and causing many accidents
Wednesday Night, 10pm Weather forecast- It's predicted for us to get 6-12", even up north by KCI. Over 21" south of Kansas City.
Thursday morning, 6am weather forecast- Maybe a few flurries, and that will be all
Thursday afternoon, 1pm- Updated computer models show an increased chance for several inches in the Kansas City metro.
This has completely confused me and I have no idea what to expect for traveling home from work tonight. Do you guys think the roads will be a complete mess tomorrow morning for the commute?

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
When my son was only 3 years old and we had been expecting a foot of snow and it turned out to be 40 degrees, he looked at me and stated "They just don't know, do they Daddy?" Wise boy there.
I will give Lezak credit for his mea culpa. This isn't an exact science. Well, except for Marty Wall's "Chair With Wheels Weather" when he was on KY. He'd roll his chair over to the window, look outside, roll back and report on the weather. Damn accurate method, that one.
