Wasn't there going to be a Latteland in the district?

There was a great Onion story several years ago about how Starbucks was opening a Starbucks in a Starbucks bathroom.  Classic humor, and not far from the truth.  Enjoy...

You should have gone to Coffee Girls or Scooters.  They were open.

According to all the Latteland employees at the Plaza location on 47th Street, they already signed the lease and are waiting for construction to finish.  Latteland is a sure thing in the P&L District.

Let's hope they put comfortable seating in the downtown store.  The Plaza and Briarcliff locations are less than inviting in terms of comfy furniture.  I think they want mostly a "to go" customer.

Whats with the funky stairs in the courtyard?  The east portion are normal height, on the west double height.  It appears that the double height could function as some sort of seating area(nice at lunchtime) but from the top there is no warning and someone expecting normal height steps could take an awful tumble, a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Haven't heard of anything like that happening at Barney Allis Plaza, which has the exact same thing going on.

This is a much more precarious situation, as from the top elevation the giant steps are not at all visible, and the flight is much higher.

really?  i've found latteland's drinks to be superior to almost any coffeeshop i've been to.  Broadway Cafe is up there too.

Wow, I've never heard anyone say anything like that about Latteland.  I've been going to their location on 47th Street for maybe ten years or so, and I'm VERY judgmental about my coffee.  I, too, think that they, the Broadway Cafe, and Muddy's on 51st have the best coffee in Kansas City.  Then again, I've only gone to the 47th Street location.  Perhaps the other, newer locations aren't as good.  If so, that doesn't bode well for the one in the District.

The one I went to was the one in Zona Rosa, this past Saturday.  I stepped inside, the only person in the joint, and there were 4 employees behind the counter working in assembly-line style.  My order consisted of a mocha latte, a caramel latte for my friend, and a blueberry muffin.

The mocha latte was okay but it really didn't have much flavor.    It was somewhere in quality between a fat-free sugar-free instant mix I tried one time and a convenience store latte.

The caramel latte looked like dirty water... it wasn't even opaque.... and tasted absolutely terrible.  She took one drink and pitched the rest.

As for the muffin, it was stale.  :(

Unfortunately we were already halfway to Liberty before we started in on our purchases or we'd have complained.

i've never been to the Latteland at Zona Rosa (or Zona Rosa at all!) but i've been to the Latteland locations on 47th, Jefferson, State Line, and Briarcliff and thought they all kicked ass - although i feel like the Briarcliff location seems to have more high school student employees rather than typical 20something baristas.  the two locations on the Plaza and the State Line location are stupendous.

that said, i usually get black coffee, a double espresso, or iced black coffee.  i've only done a latte at latteland a handful of times in my life.  the baked goods at the Plaza locations are great as well, particularly the giant vanilla-iced cookie that tastes like wedding cake.
