I hope this was sarcasm.

I was going to say - kind of hard to get real fired up about the prospects of Antioch Center getting replaced if its just going to be a wal mart and a big parking lot.

Keep Sears and put in a Costco so I do not have to drive all the way to Midtown or patronize the neighborhood Sams Club.

hmm...empty, dilapidated old building or new ones...have to think...tough choice...

Honestly, they could have a massive "Build-A-Bear" workshop and I wouldn't care.  As long as it's SOMETHING new and not that eye-sore that's draining the immediate area.

If you read a reply on that Link it says Metro North Mall could use Sears and Burlington Coat Factory.
Where did you hear about Wal-mart going their or you are dreaming because If I were I would want Ross Dress for Less,Menard's,Grander Mountain,Albertsons,TJMAXX and More and so on as Anchors.

Antioch and Vivion was the crossroads of the Northland for 30+ years. For the last 15 years or so not so much.
I too am in the architecture/design field and live up north. I really hope the new development attempts to intergrate the neighborhoods, creating cross streets and multiple building uses.
Hopefully no big boxes....but yes, a Costco up north would be nice.

I was by there earlier today and there's no fencing up yet. I'll grab some pics when they start tearing it down.

Also, there was an excavator in the parking lot of the former Amoco/Standard station across the street. Guess they're getting ready to pull the old tanks out of the ground.

Anyone know of a way to get in the mall prior to demolition (preferably legally)?  Apparently that was possible prior to the demolition of Bannister Mall.

I'd like to see some last photos of it inside & out.

Not new at all, just refurb'ed into a Supercenter.

It's been there since about '87.

I would like to point out that there's a Maid-Rite inside the Hy-Vee gas station across the street. I used to go to M-R all the time when it was on Vivion Rd.

You can get in through the garage door underneath on the southeast side of the place. If it's open you can. The Center has a giant delivery/trash area under it that goes from one end to the other. It looks like a Hunt Midwest limestone mine under there.

I worked at Showbiz when I was in high school. We dumped our trash and smoked down there.
