Yeah, Momma's Family was set in Raytown, but they never mentioned Kansas City specifically throughout the entire series.shinatoo wrote: How about Momma's Family and the one with Malcome Jamal Warner?
When I was on study abroad in Spain I saw an episode of that Malcolm Jamal Warner sitcom set in KC, dubbed into Spanish.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
That Malcolm Jamal Warner show had a nice introduction. I liked how they lived in an apartment in Westprot above Kelly's- which wasa bar that was owned by a blode girl named Kelly! I think that "back home" in Casino may refer to Kansas City. The Italian grocer that was bugged was in KC, and the KC mob had some pretty strong ties to Las Vegas.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
I just so happened to catch the trailer on my DVR so here's a screenshot of the 1 second the KC skyline is in it:Caycee wrote: I finally saw it yesterday and that in indeed KC.
Unfortunately even on my TV it's so blurry I can't make out enough visual cues to determine when it was taken. All I can narrow it down to is very early in the morning (all the exterior building lights are still on, traffic is light, sunlight coming from the southeast) and obviously based on both the snow and the sun angle, sometime in November thru February. The AT&T Building is never shown so no clue there, and I can't tell if I can make out the H&R Block construction site or not. It just moved by too fast.

Mama's family had loads of insider KC references such as transferring on the bus at 12th and Main and getting liquored up at the Bigger Jigger.

that shot isn't on the trailers on hollywood.com, etc. Whoever said they are doing this to get those cities into the movie is probably right on.
Bigger Jigger is a bar on the east side on 12th St.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
I believe the 1974 film starring Michael Moriarty "Shoot it Black, Shoot it Blue" was filmed in KC. It was not mentioned in any earlier list. It was about a cop who shoots a purse snatcher in cold blood and the deed later comes back to haunt him. The film was not a blockbuster but it did have some decent footage of the city.

New KC plug in a Major Movie
http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_fea ... rvest.html
The Ice Harvest starring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thorton, Randy Quaid and Oliver Platt set in Wichata, KS. Anyone know if they really filmed there? Randy Quaid makes a Kansas City reference in the trailer.

....that's pretty cool, right?

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Good find Josh-- I checked Rotten Tomatoes and they have some more info on it:
A wickedly funny thriller that takes moviegoers on a wild ride brimming with larceny, lust and lethal behavior. In icebound Wichita, Kansas, it's Christmas Eve, and this year Charlie Arglist (John Cusack) just might have something to celebrate. Charlie, an attorney for the sleazy businesses of Wichita, and his unsavory associate, the steely Vic Cavanaugh (Billy Bob Thornton) have just successfully embezzled $2 million from Kansas City boss Bill Guerrard (Randy Quaid). But the real prize for Charlie is the stunning Renata (Connie Nielsen), who runs the Sweet Cage strip club.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
The movie was actually filmed in Waukegan, Illinois (pop. 88,000). Tax incentives are the biggest reason most films are now being filmed in one place, but claiming it's setting is in another. I jus' hope Ice Harvest gives audiences a glance at something in Wichita...anything. Â

Melissa Ethridge is working on a sitcom on what her life would be like if she stayed in her hometown of Leavenworth, KS and became a teacher....and was still gay.
Should be a huge hit.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Not exactly KC, but the new movie "Capote" (which is sure to garner several Oscar nominations) about writer Truman Capote writing about the homicides of a Kansas family in tiny Holcomb. Much of the movie is set in the tiny Kansas town.
I also came across this awful movie on Comedy Central one afternoon. Of course, the entire movie was filmed in Texas!
There' also an upcoming documentary on a family in Manhattan with an unbalanced mother reuniting with her daughter.
This documentary looks interesting - it chronicles prom night in KC from four different groups - white, black, conservative, gay.
And finally,a direct-to video horror movie that was supposedly filmed in Kansas.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
I just read about this independent film made right here in KC about Jeffrey Dahmer. Parts were shot in KCK and Mission Hills.

Dahmer’s dad
Locally made film tells serial killer’s story through a father’s eyes

Re: KC in TV and Movies
there's also the "Ice Harvest", set in Wichita, but i think the big baddie in the movie is from KC (played by Randy Quaid, at one point in one of the trailers he says something like "you made me drive in all the way from KANSAS CITY FOR THIS!?!?" or something like that. It looks to have some relatively well known names (John Cusack, Quaid) directed by Harold Ramis.
Apparently the novel it's based on (same title) was written by a Wichita based crime novelist, who's supposed to be one of the best proponents of "midwest noir".

I just saw many shots of Arrowhead in a budweiser commercial. It, along with the Steelers, seemed to be featured.
(I saw this commercial while watching MNF by the way.)
