Re: Misc Crossroads News
Concerning in my view. Unless the Royals go for the Washington Square Park site and have plans to develop some of these empty plots in that vicinity then I cannnot see it's fate as being anything but unoccupied for a long time to come. Theres a wealth of free sites for someone wishing to develop without the need to demolish an existing structure, regardless of it's condition.
That part of Downtown on my most recent visit was a disaster. Even amongst the buildings which were occupied a number were very run down, wasted single use low volume properties or set back from the street by front door parking.

This is correct. Once construction is finished I'll gladly provide a full report to the forum. Looking forward to moving in. Personally, not a big deal about the lack of a gym or pool. I have one to use at another nearby property.

MOKAN Goodwill on Friday sought a meeting with Kansas City's development assistance team over a $50 million proposal to demolish its vacant offices and warehouse at 1817 Campbell St., making way for a four-story, 80,000-square-foot building to anchor what is christened the Goodwill Opportunity Campus in its city submission.
The project southwest of 18th and Campbell streets would include Goodwill offices, community outreach and education rooms, plus potential spaces for commercial tenants like a bank, medical clinic and child care center. The development would have` onsite parking at the block's south end, plus potential parking in the building's basement. Beyond demolition of the former Goodwill building, it also would require vacation of a small east-west alleyway on the property. In its Friday submission, MOKAN Goodwill listed 60 employees, a figure it projects could grow to 80 people with its new proposal. The filing indicates that the project will not request incentives, and contemplates construction between June 2025 and December 2026.

BKS Artisan Ales plans Crossroads nanobrewery, moving closer to KC’s hub of activity
https://www.startlandnews.com/2025/02/b ... rossroads/...
The space at 1701 McGee St. is expected to open in late spring or early summer. And while the Crossroads already is a crowded market for breweries, BKS Artisan Ales aims to tap into existing customers who work downtown and live in Johnson County — and can’t conveniently make it to the brewery’s original location in Brookside — as well as BKS fans hoping to snag their favorite beer when they’re downtown to see a show or sporting event.

Was told by a higher ranking staff member there that this building was not salvageable maybe 2-3 years ago.

I really wish people within these proposed CID districts fully understood the power the CID wields over their property once established.. and ALL the ramifications of such. If you think HOA's are bad, wait until we get a rogue CID.bspecht wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 9:31 am Crossroads CID ready for Council approval. https://clerk.kcmo.gov/LegislationDetai ... 7C&Search=

Please elaborate. I was considering one for our neighborhood because we cannot be an HOA and I don't know how else to get sidewalks fixed.im2kull wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 10:31 amI really wish people within these proposed CID districts fully understood the power the CID wields over their property once established.. and ALL the ramifications of such. City has been doing great work fixing sidewalks since they took over. Just going to take time.

Not true. I watched as the 39th Street CID formed and it was criminal, gerrymandering and self-serving. I think it is better since some of those members died off and new ones have taken over but the formation and waste of funds was mind-blowing.
I also watched the first iteration of the Columbus Park CID proposal and was not a fan but it didn't pass and it's not worth getting into.

A CID and the CID board has unabated power to institute any assessments the board desires, not just what they sold you on to establish the district. FYSA. What happens if they decide to levy a $2,000,000 assessment per parcel and you can't pay?Belvidere wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 10:39 amPlease elaborate. IMO, although I understand the frustration with the city slacking.. CID's should not be performing basic necessities of the city. The city should do a better job, but there's not much incentive for improvement when outside funds from a CID are in play.

Broadway CID was trash too. All money went to one building, the Uptown Theater, for decades.taxi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 1:22 pmNot true.
