The [eight-page] report put the blame on the failure of a clip of the kind that fishermen use to connect hooks and lures on their lines. The ones used are insufficient to withstand the weight and sway of the spinners over time, the report said.

“So basically the conclusion was this is too much of a risk to reinstall?” Commissioner Tyler Enders asked Mark Spencer, arts program manager for the city’s aviation department.

“The engineer report only commented on the existing conditions,” Spencer said. “They did not provide a plan on how to re-engineer it. They were only asked to comment on what was installed.”
Maybe they should have asked for a few more pages on that engineering report to give them an idea of what might work instead of fishing lure clips, which are slightly more robust than paper clips or ornament hooks.

City expects construction to start sometime between 2026-2028 with a "Visible demonstration project for KCI travelers" by May 2026 for the World Cup
Council has the opportunity today to authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with Evergy
Timeline: The timeline includes completing a 10% design package within 12 months,
applying for interconnection with the Southwest Power Pool, and beginning
construction within 12 months after final approvals are received. This puts the
construction start time likely at the end of 2026 or early 2027. There are a lot of
unknowns before design is complete and the approval process with the southwest
power pool can take months or sometimes years.

Any word on whether the available spaces info will return for the economy lot or the surface lot, or when whatever's been covered up on this sign since the new terminal opened will be uncovered? https://maps.app.goo.gl/rXdkxd35qHAAhWDC7

GRID wrote: Wed Jan 01, 2025 11:52 am That KC Marriott is basically an off airport hotel. It may be closer than most hotels, but it's a very dated and not very convenient hotel. If Indy can do something like this, I don't know why KCI couldn't.

I'm not sure it's a top priority though. I think a people mover would be nicer to have.
I've always wondered how polluted that lake/pond is. Has to be full of all kinds of toxic runoff

It says something like "Employee Parking." It'll be uncovered once they open the old B garage up for employees.

----

As an aside, I flew down to New Orleans last week and had to get a ride to my hotel downtown. Anyone bitching about the arrivals drive and pickup process at MCI should count their blessings that they're not at MSY. Google Street View

It took me about 45 minutes standing in line before I was able to get a cab. Lyft wanted $49, the cab was a flat fare of $36. There were cars backed up on both sides of the divider you see in Street View, and they were letting one cab go about every 2-3 minutes.

And Christ almighty don't get me started on the clusterfuck that is the Julia Street Cruise Terminal.

and we have more flying passengers than MSY, it is a bit tight at departures but it isn't really that bad most of the time, worst is not surprisingly big events like MG Jazzfest and Taylor Swift may have been the worst I ever saw it. I'm there quite a bit and it's generally pretty manageable. Cabs are almost always cheaper and very available, I only take a rideshare when it's more than 2 people which tilts the scales in favor of the rideshare price wise.

The Escape Lounge website indicates that the KC location _will_ accept Priority Pass, which is an easy bonus card to obtain with any decent credit card issuer. We will see how long that lasts -- the location in Florida near me accepted Priority Pass for about three weeks before declaring itself "too busy" and reversing course to only Platinum and Centurion AMEX cards.

This is pretty cool. Never seen so many planes at MCI terminal gates. Might be a normal thing very early in the morning. Nice view of KC at night too.

Escape lounge now fully open. 430a to 9p. Sounds like no booze yet probably liquor license delay.

Why has google maps reverted to the old imaging of the old terminals? Only seeing it on the desktop, not in the app.

Looks like it's updated in Chrome but not on the Edge browser. Must be a Microsoft thing.
