Yes, it will be hard to repurpose except maybe for a server farm.

I imagine it will get demolished and sold for redevelopment.

The lack of large windows (by design of course) would be a major limiting reuse factor for sure.

Cost of jail is now north of $300 million. Finally approved though - site work to begin

I think the plan is to demolish the old jail and redevelop the site.

The city will not partner with the county on the new jail, but instead will build its own facility.

Mayor Lucas says Kansas City will not partner with Jackson County on detention center

Sounds like fair reasoning and an appropriate response to what Jackson County was trying to pull.

Still nothing on what will happen to the DT jail. Could quite easily become another surface lot or grass patch I think...

Would rather it stay. The east side of downtown KC is practically rural. At least keep a structure there till the land can be properly developed.

I wish there was an ordinance that all vacant lots not zoned for SFHs (like the blocks of vacant grass lots in the "east village") had to be planted with native plants and pollinators. Also, all the vacant lots where KC Life tore down a whole neighborhood.

Cost to plant vs cost to build a diet or gravel parking lot might not be in our favor there

Third rate city when the owners of plots of land in the central city are too lazy or destitute to even plant a tree. Just amazing stuff.

then every american city is third rate.

I am team plant trees around the perimeter but planting over the whole thing no. I also tend to think the cities that have the farm field look even worse (STL, Detroit)
