During the Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, thousands of ticketless fans attempted to enter the venue, with some scaling walls and even climbing through air vents to gain unauthorized access.
Clearly the expectation for fan behavior is different in the USA vs. other countries. I'm honestly surprised that the stadium security seemed unprepared for the situation. The United States, as a host nation for major sporting events like the upcoming World Cup, must learn from this experience if we want a smooth world cup
That same crew and stadium has handled dozens of sold out NFL football games and even super bowls. I'm not sure how you prepare for morons acting like uncivilized clowns completely disregarding security measures. Especially considering at the end of the day, a stadiums security and gate staff are just regular people asking other regular people to respect the rules. They have zero way to enforce this if a large group decides to band together and over take the staff.
I think you'll have to bring in armed security and create a serious buffer zone using security fencing and other forms of barricades.

Created a dedicated watch party area for those without tickets and/or change the security perimeter to outside the parking gates. Tickets should have been checked twice, once when pulling the car in and again right before entry into the facility.

In Europe, you have an outer security and then to walk around the stadium you go through one-way turnstiles similar to how you exit Kauffman before the exit gates are open. It creates a "bulkhead" experience where, if a large group tries to advance and enter they can be stopped very easily by jamming the one-way turnstiles. So, to get to your seat you go through -security -turnstile -tickettaker -turnstile.

Was reading that for the Olympics they’re projecting 11 million tourists came to Paris, and only 1.5 million of those were foreign.
Could be a similar split for World Cup?
That seems really low considering how close Belgium, Netherlands, England all are. Wonder if those numbers double if u count other cities like Lille, Lyons, Maricelle that had a lot of team sporting events

I'm guessing Paris is expensive as is and prices for the Olympics probably priced out most normal folks.
I hadn't really heard what other locations were in play. Revamped BEP? River front? But WW1 seems like the logical choice. It is a bit of a walk to any other activities, especially in the dead of summer, but the street car stop will be nice. For sure the best views.

Nelson Atkins or WW1 Museum were proposed in the original bid
I mean as soon as the draft was there and worked, it was the only choice. Let's hope they design it better than the NFL did, that was rough although less of a concern with the streetcar going up the hill now.
I remember at one time they were pitching two fan experiences...one at Liberty Memorial and a second on the south lawn of the Nelson Atkins. They said two locations would help prevent a single location from being too unmanageable.

Correct. Familiarity with/ease of securing the WWI site (compared to Nelson/Theis) by all local and federal agencies involved was a significant factor in the decision.
I just realized 2026 will be the 100th anniversary of the WW1 memorial. That's also the site for the World Cup that summer. I wonder if they could do anything special for this? Seems like an opportunity.
