Re: Olathe TIF's
You have the same link for both. I think the second one is supposed to be this one, if you're referring to the project for a C-store at 167th and Mur-Len: https://olatheks.legistar.com/Legislati ... s=&Search=
The Olathe Gateway project area seems far too small for an "amusement park" of any note to be built there. Are they going to put a carousel in the middle of a strip mall and call it an "attraction" just to get STAR bonds approved?

Another sports complex and funded with STAR bonds?
I get that JoCo has lots of families willing to burn cash on youth sports but they are literally cannibalizing themselves at this point. STAR bonds for dollar stores the way it's going.

From the Johnson County Post:
Olathe moves ahead with STAR bond district for ‘ultra-accessible’ amusement park, sports arena
Loretto Properties’ plan to build an “ultra-accessible” special incentive district featuring an amusement park, a 5,000-seat multisport complex, housing, retail, dining and a medical facility for individuals with disabilities easily cleared its first hurdle this week.
The company — run by Lamar Hunt Jr. and his son-in-law James Arkell — has requested a Sales Tax and Revenue, or STAR, bond district.
The total estimate for the price tag of the first planned phase of development at the southwest corner of 119th Street and Renner Boulevard covering about 64 acres costs about $300 million. An official amount has yet to be set, but Arkell estimated in an interview with the Post the project would request about $54 million through the incentive.
The Olathe City Council on Tuesday voted 6-0 to start the process of establishing a STAR bond district comprising roughly 132 acres in the area known as Olathe Gateway.

The 'amusement park' in the image looks more like an accessible playground.

Re: Olathe TIF's
good luck to the developers and Olathe. For one I'm happy they are using their star bonds for stuff like this and perhaps less attention to drawing businesses and sports teams from the MO side tot he KS side
Regardless what you may feel about suburban developments they do help boost the overall Metro's economy and creates construction jobs and other jobs to fill the businesses going in. That helps brings more residents to the Metro. So for some of us this doesn't move the needle but it is useful overall.
I like the idea of having a unique asset in the Theme Park catering to those with disabilities. I read the piece and the concept of having rides & attractions that you can enjoy while in a wheelchair is interesting. Plus the creation of healthcare & social services in one office park/building will be very helpful for those who utilize the services. The development certainly has a main theme for sure and that theme is a solid niche, that I am sure will be widely used & very successful for those in the region that will really appreciate the focus on children with special needs.
