Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Buca di Beppo announced it is closing several outlets. The Plaza location was not mentioned, but I wonder if they will be kicked out by the new owners anyway? I never eat there.
The sunken courtyard they have is really nice, but the basement location could make it difficult of attract a new tenant.

Seems like a perfect English / Irish pub location.
I know that space is much bigger than s typical pub. It's expansive down there.

$175.6 million dollars is what HP Village Partners paid for the Plaza. Good for Nuveen for forgiving that much. Original default was $295 million.
Would have been significantly higher (over $220 million) had the Super Bowl Parade and Shake Shack shootings not happened.

For a chain restaurant, that location is super unique. It feels local even though it isn't. A lot of the photos in there are locals, too. I hope they keep it.Midtownkid wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:49 am Buca di Beppo announced it is closing several outlets. Dear god let’s hope so. Its abysmal, and if we’re to have Italian on the Plaza, we might as well have a local place.Midtownkid wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:49 am Buca di Beppo announced it is closing several outlets. Isn't Tuscan Brio on the Plaza also? It would be nice to get a local place that makes authentic Italian food. Historically, Figlio was the only locally owned Italian restaurant on the Plaza I can remember. And that was owned by the Haddad group (it may have even been a GR creation).Anthony_Hugo98 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 11:58 amDear god let’s hope so. Bring back Figilios to their old location now that Chuys is gone.Highlander wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 12:18 pmIsn't Tuscan Brio on the Plaza also? God, the local "Italian" food is so bad, though.Highlander wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 12:18 pm Isn't Tuscan Brio on the Plaza also? It would be nice to get a local place that makes authentic Italian food.

I think a North Italia would do well on the Plaza

The Chamber of Commerce needs to send a delegation to various parts of Italy and recruit some young people who cook in regional restaurants there to move to Kansas City and open authentic Italian restaurants and not these corporate creations.

(warning: tangent below)
FWIW, the most authentic Italian restaurant in the metro is *probably* Il Lazzarone - other than the pizzas being both larger and cheaper in Naples, you could teleport the food there and it would fit right in.
I'd love it if we had a place that really dialed in on things like Florentine steak or any of the specialties of Roman cuisine.

Frustrating too because it isn't like the developer doesn't have some experience in turning an old building into a food and bev concept. They're winning an award for the Lee's Summit iTap project

Looks horrible. How did that ridiculous design get approved?Cratedigger wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 3:57 pmOther developmental plans: https://www.metrowiremedia.com/news/new ... plaza-site

Our design standards are basically nothing in KCMO is my guess.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
A second Il Lazzarone on the Plaza would be nice but not sure if their business model can accommodate the rents there. I was there Saturday. Best Neapolitan style pizza in town (best pizza IMO) for a reasonable price and where else can you get Tank 7 on tap for $6.swid wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 2:21 pm (warning: tangent below)
