STL has a good concept, $3B price tag for a renovation seems expensive but when you see the total scope, full new concourse and reconfiguring taxiway, parking, and roadway access I get it. That airport always kind of feels like it's held together with duct tape and superglue.

Off topic, but I don't understand St Louis.

That metro should be growing at lot faster. They have so much of what KC is trying to get or may never get. Soon they will have an airport that will likely make KCI look second tier in the state. Who do you think will get a big subsidy from the state in a few years for international flights?

Light Rail (with a new north/south line in the works), Downtown Stadiums (four of them now). A national park monument right downtown, some fantastic downtown adjacent urban neighborhoods, they still have some big companies based there, they have some top urban universities, their basic infrastructure (highways etc) are more modernized and better maintained than the MO side of KC, Clayton seems to be thriving, Forest Park is one of the best urban parks in the country. STL has some really nice suburbs too that easily compete or exceed what KC has in JoCo etc.

Between Clayton, CWE, Midtown and and Downtown, StL is building just as much or more new residential as urban KCMO now, so they have closed that gap it seems. I mean urban StL has even landed amenities for residents that most large cities have landed that KC still has not. Things like IKEA, Target, even a top golf. Sure these things sound silly, but 15 years ago, I never would have thought that St Lous would have landed those types of amenities in their central core before KC.

Yet the metro as a whole struggles to grow.

I feel like StL should be growing a lot faster than it is. Must be an in-migration thing. I know it's a very insular city. But still. It's just odd.

Their ikea is very not urban. Agree their Metrolink and many other assets should support rabid development.

For sure IKEA in St Louis is a very suburban style development, I think the Merriam IKEA has way more structured parking for example. But IKEA still chose an urban location in the heart of St Louis city to cater more to the urban demographic, universities etc. If you live in central StL, IKEA is right there. That's all I meant.

I think the only thing that really keeps StL from growing a lot more is their weird insularity. Even most people that I know that have moved there did'nt stay long. I feel like StL is never "home" to a newcomer where KC tends to welcome people with open arms and people quickly become Kansas Citians.

Might be more true than you think. The older terminal is in rough shape. Any hard rain and the roof is leaking all over.

The southwest terminal is fine much better, and that is saying something since it isn’t anything special.

I think they have done a decent job with what they have to work with, but they are kind of out of options for improvement without building new. I imagine the upkeep on the older terminal just to keep it together has to be a lot.

I’m just happy ours is done and more enjoyable than it was. As much as some people liked the old setup I won’t miss it for a second.

The 2011 tornado probably didn't help matters.

PDX unveiled the renovation of the main terminal, featuring a gigantic timber roof. It's really impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTGR6aXcLsE

New planning study? Are you saying they’re already looking at plans to expand the new terminal?

Aren't airports required to do long range planning studies on a set frequency?

Yes and it’s very common to re-up right after a new terminal or other major project.

The FAA recommends airports update their Master Plan every 10 years or so. The website shows that MCI completed a Master Plan in 1995 and 2009, as well as a plan for the terminal area in 2015, so it's about due for one. It's usually based on traffic forecasts for 5, 10, and 20 years out.

$35 per visit or included in various passes. Not sure if this location is confirmed as priority pass or not

Unknown for priority yet, let's hope not.

Anybody remember the size? I can't find it anywhere.

The press report says priority pass.

I think it's a bit different than average airports because most amex holders fly Delta and will use sky club.

It might have been required because AA and southwest.

I think it costs me $50 for a guest on Delta with full price ticket. With Amex I believe is free to this one.

Listed as $35 a visit on the website for this specific location

Just quoting the pr:

Escape Lounges will also offer complimentary access to American Express Centurion®, American Express Platinum®, American Express Business Platinum®, American Express Corporate Platinum®, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve* and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business Card* members, as well as Priority Pass and DragonPass, among more.

*Must be on a Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight for that day

Reads to me like it'll be open to priority pass, which is I think is good but very expansive.

[Edit] I was clarifying to say that priority pass allows guests. I rarely use in the us, so I'm confused. But in other places they just walk in with me as guests. The US tends to be more restrictive.

I don't know, other than I know not all of these stay open very long. I wonder if southwest had a word, but I don't know if they offer exclusive credit cards.

It's becoming a heavy Delta/amex leaning place, which works for me. I dunno, like launch some international and take away aa.
